I know...I'm bummed too. I'm using up all of my babysitting time with Grandma next week and then I had something come up so I thought it was better to bow out. I'd like to do the wine country loop, but I melt in the heat...would I be dying out there?

    Brandy,

I did it this morning and it was nice, probably mid 80's at the end. We started at a little before 9am. Of course, you wouldn't want to be doing it any later than lunch time!

Well, I *still* think I'm probably way too new for this and that 50 miles is most likely too ambitious at this point, but if you don't mind the giving a newbie a shot at it, I'll come. I figure, worse comes to worse, so long as I have a map and can get back to my car, I can always turn around.

Can anyone give me directions from downtown L.A. to the starting point, and let me know what time to be there?

    YEAH Cindi!!!

Just wanted to pipe in to say I'm glad you're coming!!! I only know how to get there from my house so I'm no help w/directions ... sorry. I was in Irvine all day today though and it was actually pretty cool - the June gloom was over the airport area pretty much all day and it didn't get too warm... hopefully it will be that way next weekend too!

    Start Time????

So, what's the plan for Saturday? I'm leaving Thursday afternoon and won't be home until late Friday so I'd like to get an idea of start time (I'm assuming the starting point is the same).

I think there are several people who will need directions to the start as well. I can't wait to see everyone!!!! YEAH!!

I was hoping to get and post the route slip from my friend Jess but it has not arrived yet. No worries, I have a route planned in my head. I think with all this "Africa Hot" weather we are having we will skip the hill climbing in the beginning. I still plan on doing Newport Coast. Will also have a little climbing once we hit PCH, but its a little hill. Depending on how everyone is doing and what the weather is like, we can add some hill climbing (and mileage) on the end. I'd like to do 50 miles but with really hot weather may cut it to 40 or so. Remember to bring plenty of water and snacky snacks.

Anyway, let's plan on meeting at Cedar Grove Park around 8 - planning to leave at 830a. Directions:

Cedar grove Park, Tustin Ranch CA

From LA: Take 5 South past the 55 (Newport Fwy), exit Tustin Ranch Rd. turn left. Continue up Tustin Ranch Rd. to Pioneer (approximately 1 1/2 - 2 miles), turn left, right, and then immediately left into the Park parking lot. Note if you hit Jamboree, you went too far. Pioneer is the left turn before Jamboree. Tustin Ranch dead ends into Jamboree. Look for the 7th Day Adventist Church and OC Fire Station at the corner of Tustin Ranch and Pioneer.

From South OC or San Diego: Take 5 North, exit Jamboree turn right. Take Jamboree past Irvine Blvd, look for Tustin Ranch Rd., turn left. Next right is Pioneer, turn right, then right again and left into the Park.

My cell phone is (714) 308-5522. Please call me if you are running late, get lost etc so we wait for you. I have a white Ford Explorer with cycling stickers all over the back window, license "BIKNPAM".

I'm hoping both Wayne and my friend Richard join us. Please give me a roll call so I know whose coming and know to wait for you all.

    Weather depending

I'm in, unless the currently forecast 10-degree temperature drop doesn't happen. If they're predicting 90s, I think it'd be foolish for a newbie like me to attempt even 40 miles. I'll leave a message on Friday night if I won't be there.

Yeah kindof thinking if its very hot what to do. Cindi I will definitely shorten
the ride and keep it easy. We can play it by ear.

OK I now have 3 ride options depending on who comes and what everyone is up for.

Right now the only for sures I have are Tracey, myself, Wayne, Wayne's friend Mike. Richard is a maybe as is Cindi and Nina.

The plan is still to meet between 8 - 8:15, planning to start riding at 8:30 at Cedar Grove Park. I have 3 route options and distances - 35, 50 and 67. I think the 67, which is a cool route, I'll save for the ride planned end of July early August to see if we are all ready for Cool Breeze. I was thinking of taking the 35 and turning it into a 45 by adding some hills and a loop in the beginning if the weather's not bad and everyone is game but otherwise, the 50m ride is fairly easy, only really one long hill (Newport Coast) and lots of flat. That ride can also be modified. Jess has us going all the way into Huntington Beach, Main Street. I'm thinking we might want to avoid the crazies and hit the River Trail instead, take a break and head back. I will bring all 3 route slips with me and we can discuss that morning depending on who shows up.

    Again roll call please?
