June 24th Ride Reports

As Lifesgreat said, we had an early morning ride with some friends. My ride ended up a little longer than hers because we split off from each other about halfway into the ride. I ended up doing 28.5 miles. It was a good, easy recovery ride...just what I needed today. And the company was great, too.
Lifesgreat has a better attitude than I do, plus I'm a cold wimp: she says the weather was perfect...I was freezing my rear off! At least the first half of the ride before the sun came up and we hit some heat-producing hills. Then I was finally able to take off the arm and ear warmers and stop the shivering and teeth chattering! Only then was the weather PERFECT!

Did a wonderful ride with the club. we rode over to breakfast place in Glendora, where they were having a car show,and then to a bike shop in Claremont. A Couple from Phoenix had just bought(if I understood correctly) a new Santana tandem(he a former member of the club), and it needed adjustment. We saw a whole bunch if cyclist on the way back, we were debating whether they another club or part of the LA Wheelmen's Grand Tour. Everyone pretty much Hung together and had a wonderful time. Wanted to do more , but it's too hot out.

I rode about 36 miles with my group on a paved trail, with two side excursions to convenience stores. Second ride for the Sugoi RS Flex shorts. At no time did I consider pulling at them- the chamois just stayed where it belonged and didn't bother me and did its job and didn't bunch. Yay! I also think that fabric performed very well in humid kind of hot weather. I don't think it was as hot as it has been, but must have been about 80-85 for the ride.

I saw a doe and two fawns right at the beginning, crossing a road. The fawns went _so_ slowly. The approaching car slowed to a stop and let them cross- what a miracle. Also saw a huge flock of cattle egrets, an ibis, a sandhill crane, and an unidentified dark heron.

After the ride we ate at an obscure little restaurant that had been owned by the same guy, Loius, since 1923, and was now run by his son, since Loius died two years ago at 106. I had a cheeseburger (or so they claim! it was serious mystery meat) for $1.80, small onion rings for $.90, and a small rootbeer shake for $1.45.

Gotta work tomorrow :-(
