OK so I'll think about putting together a 50 miler. Weather will dictate direction.

But just a word of of caution. I don't need to stop for lunch either but depends on how slow the group is. Most likely I will make everyone stop for GU or Bean or whatever every 20 miles or so. Stops short and quick and move on. Riding 50 without a proper food stop will make everyone bonky, including me. I can usually do a flat 50 in about 4 hours (hilly - 5 hours), including a quick coffee stop but it depends on the heat, the group etc. If we start around 8 we should be done around 1 - 1:30. Suggest everyone bring their gels and beans but also a proper food source such as protein bar, pj sandwich, fig cookies, etc.

Do you have a plan as to where you are going? I'm trying to clean my yard, but think I could squeeze in a ride with you ladies... If you are willing to let a slow turtle go with you.

Pam, I have been a little behind in posting lately - very busy at work. I would love to go. I am just not sure yet, because we had talked about going to Catalina over that weekend. If I do go, I don't need to stop for lunch or long breaks either. My endurance is pretty good and I can average 16-18 mph. It's just those hills!!! I'll stay in touch.

    ACG and Nina,

Hope you ladies can make it, Pam knows some really good routes! ACG, we are starting from a little park near 261 and Jamboree (Tustin) if that gives you and idea of area... we're looking at about 50 miles or so.

Here's my proposed route so far... athough subject to alteration and change due to weather..

    Cedar Grove Park, Tustin Ranch
Lower Peters Canyon to Lemon Heights
Lemon Heights to Skyline (yes we are climbing but its early when its cool)
Skyline to Cowan Heights to Newport Blvd.
    Newport Blvd to Santiago Canyon.
    Santiago to Jamboree
    Jamboree to Portola
Portola to Hick's Haul bike trail
Take the East trail back to Portola
Portola to Jeffrey (need to check status of Jeffrey due to construction)
Jeffrey South (again depends on construction) to San Diego Creek trail
SD creek trail to Back Bay East to PCH
PCH to Santa Ana bike trail
SA bike trail to Orange and then find a way back to Tustin.

I think its about 50 miles. If not we can cruise back up Pioneer and Jamboree to add mileage.

Whoo Hooooo, we got ourselves a route!!! That sounds like a GREAT route Pam! Thanks again for putting it together, it really helps to have someone who knows those roads!

What are the other climbs besides Lemon Heights? (No, I'm not worried, just want to be prepared )

Your biggest challenge isn't someone else.
It's the ache in your lungs and the burning in your legs and the voice inside that yells "CAN'T".
But you don't listen. You just push harder.
And then you hear the voice whisper "CAN".
And you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.
