the good news is that the last 10 miles are pretty much downhill or flat... and I go really, really slowly up the other hills so you'll be just fine

Exclamation May need to bow out

As a relative newbie, I'm finding that I can't hack riding in the sun and heat. My daily workout rides are starting at 5 or 5:30 AM and I'm usually out and done by 7:30, 8AM at the latest. I'm guessing that I'm probably not going to find a whole lot of like-minded souls who want to ride with me at the crack of (or slightly before) dawn.

    Hey Chartman64!

You may want to try it at least once because Pam (who's putting the route together) doesn't like heat either and if it's too warm, she will be putting together something near the coast.... so I think you might be okay?

You might want to PM her to get her thoughts; I'd love to see you give it a try!

I'm out. My work schedule just changed. Hopefully next time!

Your biggest challenge isn't someone else.
It's the ache in your lungs and the burning in your legs and the voice inside that yells "CAN'T".
But you don't listen. You just push harder.
And then you hear the voice whisper "CAN".
And you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.

OK so I'll think about putting together a 50 miler. Weather will dictate direction.

But just a word of of caution. I don't need to stop for lunch either but depends on how slow the group is. Most likely I will make everyone stop for GU or Bean or whatever every 20 miles or so. Stops short and quick and move on. Riding 50 without a proper food stop will make everyone bonky, including me. I can usually do a flat 50 in about 4 hours (hilly - 5 hours), including a quick coffee stop but it depends on the heat, the group etc. If we start around 8 we should be done around 1 - 1:30. Suggest everyone bring their gels and beans but also a proper food source such as protein bar, pj sandwich, fig cookies, etc.
