Any Terrible Two Riders?

If there any of you planning on doing the Terrible Two this weekend -- have a great time. It's supposed to be almost 90 degrees in the Santa Rosa plain tomorrow, which means it could be pushing 100 back in the Geysers area when you're heading over it--be sure to top of the bottles and tank up at the rest stop before you head out there.

I hope to see you at the finish--I'll be working there starting at 7pm!

Not I - I gave up my TT dreams when I bailed on DMD. Maybe next year... I still have doublitis.

Doug's not riding this year--his band got a gig at the North Beach Festival during the afternoon. Hmmm, torturing himself over the hot hills and paying to do it, or playing for a bunch of happy people in naturally air conditioned San Franciso AND get paid. The decision wasn't too hard. He'll be part of the crew at the finish though.

I have two friends, both named Paul (you can't make this stuff up), who were going to do it. Are results out yet???

We rode the second half of the course a couple of weeks ago and it was the hardest 108 miles I have ever done. I thought Skaggs was bad when I drove it, but that paled in comparison to Ft. Ross!!!!

Skagg's Springs seemed to really take it out of a lot of people this year--that's where the really hot temperatures hit. We had not only the largest field, but the largest percentage of DNF's this year.

The provisional results have been posted to the club chat list, but it hasn't been finalized. What are the last names of the Paul's you're looking for? My brother-in-law is also a Paul, he's done the TT the last 11 years (frequently on a tandem, though not this year).

Well, I've found out that one Paul (Duren) DNF'ed at about 120. Heat was a huge issue.

My other Paul is Paul Worhach. Hope he made it. It sounds brutal this year.

No Paul Worhach in the results either (it doesn't list DNF or DNS). Heat was a big issue, and indirectly, some people had to pull out due to lack of lighting. I heard of a few folks who sent their lights to Monte Rio, but because of the heat they went a little slower and needed the lights at Ft. Ross. I think I almost felt worse for those folks because they really felt they could have finished (physically).

Bummer. Well, he'd planned to do a bunch of doubles with our group early in the year but ended up with pneumonia. He probably hadn't quite gotten enough time to train after being so sick.

Thanks for the info. I can't imagine the course in such heat. The day we did the second half we couldn't have asked for better weather - sunny and cool, not bad wind.

Did Cat Berge finish? Kitty Gourselle? Rick and Anna Stewart (tandem)??

TT is the last double in the stage race. I wonder how that will end up - very good field of folks this year.

Cat Berge did not participate this year. Kitty Gourselle completed it in 15:55. Rick and Anna Stewart in 16:23. There was an unfortunate tandem crash--the riders were participating the Triple Crown. The first rider in was Brian Anderson--this is his 4th year coming first. He did it in 11:09!!! It looks like the first woman in was Brenda Phelps, at 12:14, though there is a person named Jamie who came in earlier--I don't know them so that could be the first woman.

Thanks for all the inside scoop. I just remembered another friend who was planning to do it - Larry Bragg. He and I rode Solvang together. I wonder if he finished.

Tell them to just publish the stupid results so I will stop bugging you!!
