and welcome again Diggles! and yes motorcycles count - you'd be surprised just how many of us own motorcyles also! I guess it's that whole - oops.....I probably better NOT type out what my mind was thinking!

Good luck on your bike journey my friend! I always enjoy "watching" people get their first bike and then sharing their adventures with them. Be sure and let us know what you find - we really like reading about happy endings!

We love hearing about cycling in different countries!

    Hello

    Real name: Jen
Where do you live? Longmont, CO (35 mi N of Denver, just N of Boulder)

Explanation of your handle: My 5 year old chocolate lab's name is Anika (rhymes with Monica), we often call her Happy Anika because she's just so darned happy all of the time.

Explanation of your avatar: That's me on my bike, see those beautiful mountains in the back? I LOVE where I live.

    Age (general or specific) Just turned . . . d'oh, I still can't say it . . . 29 + 1.

Occupation: Research Scientist (Materials Science and Engineering)

    Favorite bike: Mine.

What's in your stable? Trek 1500 WSD (just bought it in April 06, I love it!)

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 38.5 down a hill on a country road N of where I live, actually the picture in the avatar was taken just before I hit this on Memorial Day.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Not yet.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: In college I lived with my boyfriend. I told my parents I had a female roommate.

Most memorable moment on my bike: I went out for my first "real" ride on my new bike with two girlfriends, it was a beautiful morning, perfect temperature, nice and quiet, I was cruising along and taking in the view, farms on both sides, green land, perfect blue sky, snow capped peaks to the west. It was just a great "life is good" moment. I love to be outside and I love cycling because its taking me to places I wouldn't otherwise go and allows me to appreciate my surroundings.

Most fun ever had on a bike? A rolling hill ride where I left my husband in the dust.

I just started cycling in April, before that I just casually rode an old mtb around town. I'm addicted now. Funny thing is I started cycling to improve my hiking and now all I do is cycle. I did a search for a saddle problem and came across this wonderful web site. Its full of such great information and looks like such a wonderful community of women cyclists. Its already been so helpful and I look forward to becoming a regular.

    Cool Getting to know you

    Your real name? Becky
Esplanation of your handle: Easy, my given name is Rebecca, I'm known as
Becky, combine the two and you get Brecca.

Explanation of your Avatar.....I'm working on that one...gimme time...okay, time up. Finally came up with an avatar all my own. This is the faired 2006 Catrike Pocket that I rode in my first race, so I have a special affection for it.

Where do you live? West Central Illinois

Age (Generic or Specific)... almost 53 and proud of it!

Occupation: Licensed Practical Nurse/ charge nurse in a rural Illinois Nursing Home.

Favorite bike? Hmmmm, tough one. Probably my fixed gear that my guy built for me as a Christmas present tied with a 2006 Catrike Pocket that I enjoy racing.

What's in your stable? I proudly live in a 22 bike home...or is that 23...it's hard to keep count of the ever shifting number. My Significant Other is a competitive Bike racer and builder so we have an assortment of bikes scattered through the house from homebuilts to faired low racers, including a Trek, 2 Catrikes,a Wishbone, a True Grit low racer, a Raleigh road bike, a tandem, assorted fairings, titanium racers, and our pride and joy, Varna II which in two weeks will be competing against the worlds best and fastest at the Nissan Tech Center in Arizona for the Dempsey-MacCready Prize for the first speed bike to travel 56 mph....and a chance at the 25,000 dollar prize! Rob English will be riding for Team Varna II....wish us luck gals.

Fastest Speed on a Road Bike? 34.7 mph...down hill...with a tail wind...leaning foreward...spinning like mad in high gear....where? On a stretch of hilly road near my home...and it's all hilly road near my home...when? Early this spring.

Another picture of yourself ...working on that one, too...

Biggest lie you've ever told? That getting your clip stuck and falling over on asphault at a stop sign really doesn't hurt at all....whimper....

Most memorable moment on your bike? Competing in the Macomb, Il senior olympics this spring with my guy on our tandem and winning the 1k and the 5k race against roadbikes and some really strong riders.

Most fun every had on a bike? See the above...with riding my first competitive race at Waterford Michigan this past Saturday running a close second. I didn't do all that great, but it was a real kick running with the big dogs and doing my best.

Explanation of your handle: I collect postage stamps from the Faroe Islands, and I've been using it for my Yahoo handle for years. The stamps are to die for--they are some of the best quality stamps in the world, and sooo gorgeous. OK--guess you have to be a stamp collector. Almost makes me wish I was Faroese! 78 refers to the year of my high school graduation.

Explanation of your avatar: I haven't worked that out yet. Tried to make one but it was too big. I want it to be a picture of my German Shepherd Dog Abby.

Age (general or specific) 46 on June 3rd

    Occupation: Registered Nurse

Favorite bike: I like the Trek bikes so far, but Novara makes some nice ones too. And Schwinn has some repros to die for! But as for the Treks, I've been trying out bikes and I have looked at various ones, and I keep coming back to the Treks. I think the Burley runabouts look neat, but they are out of my price league at this time. Maybe some day.....

What's in your stable? I haven't got a bike yet, I'm just starting out, but in 2 weeks I will have a Trek 7.2 FX WSD!

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? not yet!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? As soon as I do, I'll post it on weshots in my album--my webshots handle is shepherdwagen (the name of my VW camper bus.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Lie? What lie? I neeeeever lie! ;^)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Not yet! Most memorable moment so far was the first time I test road a bike a few weeks ago. The shop was right next to the bike path, and I took the bike out a 1/4 mile and came back. I pulled off into the grass and fell over! Glad it was the grass and not the pavement!

Most fun ever had on a bike? Again, not yet! Unless you count the above. It was fun, in a weird way. I've been having fun trying out bikes. I hope the most fun I have on one somehow involves my dog, Abby.

Shimpie, did your parents name you after the future girl in The Time Machine? It's one of my favorite books/movies, so I'm just curious

Welcome to the board, all you new people. Wow, there sure are a lot! Not that I've been around here long either, but it's impressive to see it continuously grow like this.

I was soooo thrilled to find my name in the Time Machine when I was 10 years old. It's actually a common Thai name. You just don't come across it much here.

    Talking I'm Back

Some of you might know me as Biking Kitsune... I left the board awhile ago just before sorting through my recent divorce, but I'm back, and back on the roads and trails... and ladies, it's good to be 'home'.

    Real name: Ronnie
Where do you live? Beaverton, OR

Explanation of your handle: I've always loved foxes, so imagine my amusement to hear of a japanese trickster fox spirit that could take the form of a seductive young woman!

Explanation of your avatar: Eventually I'll upload it. The one I have in mind is a black and white one of myself the day I met my girlfriend

Age (general or specific) 22 Dec 5th

    Occupation: Security Officer

Favorite Bike? I love the sexy, sleek lines of the newer stumpjumpers =)

What's in your stable? Specialized Rockhopper, '04

Fastest speed on a road bike? Don't do the roadie thing...

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I have one of myself and my ex husband together on the top of a hill in Eugene...

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I can't remember, which means I've either told too many, or I don't lie! (I'll let ya'll pick!) Nice one, Corsair... I'm going to say the same for now. =)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Riding to work the morning after the '04 election, my ex started to cross the street (he always rode way out infront of me) and he was hit by an SUV right in front of me, was flipped up onto the hood and fell on the other side of the vehicle on his head (thankfully in-helmet). I'm not sure when I actually got off my bike and picked it up, but for some reason, by the time I was actually at the SUV (which stopped) I was carrying my bike and shaking it threateningly. I don't know who was more scared- me, or the driver! (my hubby was alright except for a sprained ankle, btw)

Most fun ever had on a bike? I got on my bike for the first time in 6 months for my birthday, and rode around Brown's Camp in the snow. It was slushy, my asthma wanted to kill me, and it was cold, but it was like visiting Wisconsin for a trip home, so crisp, clean and beautiful. I was thoroughly spattered by dirty snow by the time I was done, and thrilled!
