Not necessarily -- just because it is from the same company does not mean it will fit the same, but if you have had good results from one company, it might be a good place to start. Shebeest makes a century short you might want to look at, it has a thicker pad.
For the leg issue, maybe a longer short would work better because it would place the gripper lower. If the leg opening is small on the shorter styles, the gripper might bother you by feeling too tight because it will end up high where your leg is widest. You want muscle compression, but you don't want to cut off circulation. This points towards the Shebeest century short as well because it has a longer inseam.
From my own experience, it seems that Castelli & Sugoi both have wider leg openings than some of the other manufacturers. But my legs are thin. It would be better to ask the staff @ TE for some recommendations.
