Decided to ride into town for groceries today. Thought I'd take a little detour. Finally got to town. Loaded up with groceries. Realized weight makes quite a difference when biking. the 6 miles there was a coasty spinny downhill dream. the 6 miles back was an uphill, a slow meandery one but still UPHILL, almost the entire way. The last leg of it is of course uphill but it's a gravel road that takes a mountain goat or a range rover <or my mountain bike> to get up.

I flopped down on the porch glad I made it home, looking forward to stretching and then making some dinner. Realized I hadn't picked up any smokes. Well, that's one way to quit. I'm sure as &*@) not biking that again tonight to get a pack of coffin nails. I'm sure I'll do it later. in a day or three. when I'm feeling seriously masochistic. That last half mile nearly killed me. I know I'm out of shape but GEEZE that was brutal.

Reminder to self..do not lose extra bike light in house...Where is it...???

I wanted to go for a 2-2 1/2hr ride tonight but knew that if i couldn't find the extra weeny light i'd be relying on imaginary night vision goggles for the venture home....I have 1hr on my light before it needs recharging....

I wanna ride my bike....it's calling me...

Now just think how much easier that hill will get for each time to you ride it and keep "forgetting" to buy the lung gunk. You'll be building hill climbing strength twice as fast as the rest of us.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

I took the plunge, took the 6 am train where I can load a bike (not on my regular 7 am) and worked until 5, then took off for my first ride home from work - 57 km and it was hot hot hot. Still felt the 200 k from the weekend in my legs.

Will try to do this once every week or 2. as long as it's light until 8 pm.

My coworkers all came to look at Fred who was sitting in our storage room instead of the bike rack outside, but I felt like a bit of a showoff leaving in all my gear. Got a comment in that direction too. They're just jealous.
It's a little secret you didn't know about us women. We're all closet Visigoths.
