    Best long distance shorts?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I currently ride in Sugoi Evolution shorts. After about 40 miles, I have a bit of discomfort.
In your opinion, what are some of the best long distance shorts to use?
    Thanks!

You know there are a lot of threads regarding shorts. I would look a few of them up.See if any of them might help as long as they are not to old sence styles change every year. My opinion is it is personal. I think anyone is going to feel a little sore after 40 miles no matter what. Everyone here seems to have their favorites. I have a pair of trek shorts I just love for long rides. And then another brand that the chamois is thinner and not so good. I would look into a thicker chamois maybe. But you know sometimes thicker is not better. Your seat could make a difference too. What kind of seat do you have?

I've noticed any chamois that doesn't have sections or stitching will tend to bunch up, which isn't bad for a couple hours, but then feels horrible after that.

The statement above that you will likely feel discomfort after 40 miles really doesn't have to be true - but both your saddle and your shorts need to be right for long-term comfort. In my experience I am just as comfortable after a long day in the saddle as I am after a short ride.

Unfortunately, the choice of both is very personal in that the shorts & saddle that are perfect for me could be awful for you. My current favorite shorts are Sugoi RS Flex. I was quite happy with the PI Ultrasensors, but their 2006 chamois and I don't get along. So my old shorts are fine, but when I attempted to get new shorts this year I ended up switching to the Sugoi shorts - which to be honest I like a lot better than even last year's PIs.

I have a pair of Sugoi RS Flex on the way right now. I hope I like them. I am _so_ picky, but that's because I have a pair I love (which are, of course, now unavailable) and I want to love the next pair just as much...

I wear either the Sugoi (not a clue sry) or the Performance Ultra Gel Shorts for all my rides rather they're 12 miles or 112 miles. I don't use any chamois butter or creme and I don't have any problems but..........I have a Great saddle and I've made sure it's set just right for me.

If the Flex shorts still don't work for you, you might want to consider a saddle change. To each her own but if you're riding the saddle that came with your bike - it's probably a Bontrager. I and several other women here think the Bontrager was made for the sole purpose of torturing it's rider!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

    What Corsair said!

I told the guys at the LBS that we were calling the Trek stock saddles the "bonty of death" and just sort of got a blank stare. What a shocker...Men! Aargh!

Yikes if its that nasty Bontrager seat get rid of it quick. I dont know one person that likes it. Back to shorts I also like the Sugoi Flex ones I used them on my recent first century and they were comfy all the way.

I like the old Sugoi RS Flex. The new ones have a little too much padding for me.

I still love my wicked expensive Louis Garneaus. I only wear them on centuries or more, to try and make them last longer. So far, two doubles, a double metric plus (that's what I'm calling my DMD attempt ) and a century.

I wish they would go on sale.

I am a whimp! I can feel sore after 15 miles on some days! It just depends on the day you know?

Another person signing praises of the Sugoi RS Flex shorts! I've ridden a local charity ride for five years & this was the first time that I got up Sunday morning (after 100 miles on Saturday) and didn't feel sore when I hit the saddle! Another 80 miles on Sunday & felt great the next day too!

And yet another vote for the Sugoi RS Flex shorts!! Rode with them for the first time on Monday's ride - 3 1/2 hours in the saddle and no complaints. By the way, I am riding the Bontrager saddle that came on my Madone and have had no problems with comfort. Like someone said, "it is all personal choice".

OK I'm definitely going to look for those ones - they seem pretty popular. I bought my first pair of cycling shorts last month and like them much better than my regular clothes. I have managed to get over weairng lycra at age 46 and don't care what people think of me. (Actually I've had two men in cars yell something at me when I was riding and I couldn't hear what they said so I naturally I assume it was good - haha), But I digress - what I want to know is this - I didn't want to spend a ton on my first pair of shorts so bought some Sugoi Neo Pro shorts for $50 (Can). I like them just fine. How much more am I going to LOVE the RS Flex shorts if I buy them at 3 times the price. Will they be awesome? I think I am worth it - hee hee... Is the chamois a lot thicker/better quality?
