No date yet, but a nice talk. I'll give the other guy a call today. This stuff is hard--all of you with DHs or DPs or whatever--go give 'em a kiss! Go on! I'll wait here! Don't tell 'em why, just a big ol' smack on the lips, and come back to the computer... hold music playing...isn't that nice? Don't you just love him/her?

My connection to "Q" is soooo tangential... ...but fun to have one at all, right?

And yes, MP, we all want to know what happened on BJ. I am too slothful to go read up on it myself over there. Or, more to the point, I can't even keep up with the TE posts. Off to work, hi-ho!

We were probably watching the same episode. My daughter loves it, too!!

Basically, on BJ, SK mentioned an interest in the fact that Jonathan Boyer, first ever American in the Tour de France (also won RAAM in 1985) is riding RAAM this year. So I mentioned in a reply the heated debate going on on a Ultra cycling email list I belong to about Boyer - he was convicted of child molestation. I didn't really get into specifics, nor did SK BUT one of the Cyclonauts asked slantz the BJ administrator to remove all references to Boyer from the thread. So SK and I were a little bent about that. I mean we didn't get into huge specifics, and it's not like we totally hijacked the thread - we really didn't. Just a couple of emails about facts dealing with Boyer. It's not like we were taking a position on child molestation or anything (DUH), but the facts are the facts.

    more

And I'd previously had an email censored (nicely) by Slantz - I'd made some reference to one friend of mine "kicking everyone's @sses" in mileage and was told that inferred profanity was not okay. I really hadn't meant anything by it. I guess my time at the DA's office comes out every once in a while. They have a low threshold for profanity. Which is entirely their prerogative since it's their site - but we were a little miffed yesterday that if one person asked for non-offensive posts to be removed that they would do it.

Yeah, my post was horribly offensive. It essentially said that if you're acquitted (at the time I didn't know Boyer had been convicted) that one should be allowed to participate. Fer crying out loud, I thought this was America and once you had been found innocent you were allowed to resume your normal life or if not once you had paid your debt to society you were done with it. Somehow this was considered a negative in the thread. So maybe I did take a position - that the laws are the laws and they are what makes the USA a good place to live.

Nobody said anything pro or con about the facts of the case or Boyer's character.

Websites, or lists, or whatever that over-moderate are BS. I don't have time for that.

In slantz' defense, he did it in response to a Cyclonaut's request.

It sounds like they're a bit heavy handed with the sensoring. I'm very surprised they gave in on a single request to remove references. It doesn't sound like you were taking sides or trying to totally hijack the thread to me. Craziness!

(That's just one of my favorite movie lines ever, and I like to throw it in anywhere it occurs to me. I generally restrain myself. Except when it comes to that freakish monkey biking film from the 60s that beta posted...or excessive censorship on the BJ site.)

He wasn't convicted, he accepted a plea bargain. The discussion boards on the RAAM site have some "guest" posters talking about Boyer too. A few of his friends, and someone who works in the Monterey Co. DA office (where he accepted the plea bargain) all support him. Knowing someone personally that was wrongly charged as a sex offender, I try to keep my mouth shut until I hear all sides. Wish others would too.

Interesting thread - don't go here if the discussion will offend or p*** you off.

    lights-long post kids

Long post but i feel like typing

Urhgth...I've been wandering around my house for the last 40min or so searching for my extra bike light...

The nightflux one i have on my roadie is going to burn out in an hour and i need another light to get me home or so...I've no clue where i left it and hate only riding for 40min as it's there's no point..Ian's not home tonight to make a light up for me-even if it was heavy i'd still go...(he makes bike lights and the night i'd like one he's not home...)

I came home ready to do a 2 1/2hr ride but i'll have to wait until tomorrow night i guess...

I am struggling to see at night even with the lights i have...Nanci do you have the cateye Double shots????

ONe more thing nanci...i'd like to do long distance rides with Audax (randoneurring in aust) but i know there are no shoulders on most of the hwys in Western aust (even if there were it would just be pea gravel) & i;'d have to contend with road trains (not sure what you call them in the states but transport trucks with two or even three trailers). Any advice???

off to search for the elusive light...

Did you find the light? That's very cool that Ian makes bike lights. I know what you mean about being limited by time on a bike ride. I hate having to think, "I have to be home by such and such a time". That's the bike-riding little kid in me.
