Ahhh, so nice to be back on the bike after a week or so off with a cold/flu/whateveritwas. Took about 5 miles to work the cobwebs out of my legs, but I felt pretty good. Did 26 and some change on some new roads. I'm in northern IL near the WI border volunteering at a camp so I got to do some exploring. It's a combination of rural roads with urban sprawl invading the area. Some really nice roads that I thought would be relatively empty, but there was decent traffic for 6 am. Saw some ducklings with 3 parents along side the road. Must have been a blended family Also saw a deer standing in the morning fog near a small marsh/bog and a duck laying in the middle of a parking lot sunning itself. I found a good road I plan on checking out more tomorrow. In general roads with the word "river" in them are usually a good bet for some scenery.

    Good morning!

Today was 10 miles on my schedule -- I enjoyed it very much. I saw ducklings also -- but they were hightailing it across the road -- to get away from an alligator. Glad they escaped.

The scenery here is so beautiful! Plus, it was overcast today and not so hot.

    Ya'll have a great day!

Not much to report, other than I rode. Did see a Rabbit by the baseball stadium, and the Marine layer was not as bad

I rode 34 miles which was supposed to be a recovery ride, but I rode with my SO which always means I am pushing it. It was a good ride all the same but I am pooped. I think the recovery ride will have to be tomorrow.

I had a nice ride today too. I went with two girlfriends and we did a 26 mile loop. It is one of my favorites and I hadn't done it yet this year. Didn't see anything interesting...oh, wait a minute, we did see an entire windshield that was shattered, but still intact, on the shoulder of the road. Saw some road kill too. It was hot by the time we finished, probably in the low 90's.

Betagirl, I send my son to camp every year in Eagle River. What a great place to hang out and be a kid. He loves it up there and it is a nice relief from the warm weather in Texas.

Just back from a nice relaxing ride. Did just over 12 miles but at a VERY slow pace. Started off ok, but then chose to come back along the river path. Turns out the first half of it is completely overgrown and a bit difficult to manauver by bike. But if you don't mind bugs and nettles, it's great. Very scenic and quiet. Nice to exchange the dust and exhaust of the city for some fresh vegetation, beautiful red poppies in full bloom, bleeting sheep and lots of shore birds foraging along the river. Therapeutic!

Another warm morning here in Phoenix. I set out about 7:00 am. It was a bit cooler this morning though, so the cool air on my skin felt nice.
It was the usual hood cruise. I left my son back at home watching cartoons, so I couldn't venture too far.I did see my first Gila monster though. That was cool! I know they are VERY poisonous, so I didn't get too close, but I had to stop and check him out. He was perched on a rock. I kept a healthy distance and just observed.
Anyway, it was a nice hour- 16 measly miles, but at least I got out. Even a few minutes in the saddle is precious time for me.
I get my nephew tomorrow for a week and a half, so I'm not sure how much riding I'll be able to get in... Gotta enjoy it when you can!
    Ciao!

Rode at lunch today...did a short 14 mile loop. I was alone (missed the group because I was in a meeting) and I averaged 16.2 mph which pleases me!

Didn't see anything exciting...but I did almost end up on the front lawn of the big Volvo building when a cross-wind caught me completely off guard!

I'm FREE!!! Okay, had to get that out of my system, because I took my Step 1 boards today. Afterwards, I went for a nice 12mile ride over the tri course I wanted to do last Saturday, but didn't. It was a ride I often do, but since I hadn't been on a bike (other than a spin bike) in like 2 weeks, and with the number of hills there, my legs hurt and my butt just didn't want to get up off of the saddle. Needless to say, I stayed in my two smaller chain rings almost the entire time. Afterwards, I saw a bunch of people swimming in the lake, so I decided to join them! Did about 1000y OW for the first time ever, and didn't freak out! Yeah!! Now I have to go start packing to move.
