I'm not lucky enough to live in Manly itself, It's 8Km down the road from my shared unit.
On Sundays, I treat myself with a ferry trip to/from city & get some riding done on the otherside of the harbour. Morning sunday traffic is pretty light & makes for good riding.
It's not a bad life on this side of the ditch.
Yes, everythings expensive, the traffic can be heavy, the public transport could be better, John Howard is still Prime Minister & I have to put up with cockroaches in the warmer months.
But I live near a string of beaches, running from Palm beach (for the rich), surf beaches & Manly beach (with yellow sand, tourists & more surfers)
In the evenings I can ride to North Head overlooking the harbour, & watch the sunset over the city.
The cycling isn't too bad. There are plenty of side roads you can take, a few shared pathways & most drivers are alright. The main roads are doable if you take your place in the lane & don't show any fear. There is a national park around 17km north of my place (with some big climbs & fast downhill rides) & the North Head road is almost free of traffic.
But that's not to say, I don't get homesick for NZ.
