I did the Salt Lake Century today. Actually it was the Salt Lake Century + 7. Lotsa tailwind going out, not too bad crosswinds across the causeway from the "mainland" to Antelope Island (an island in the Great Salt Lake), but BRUTAL headwinds coming back any time the route went due south. The last 5 or so miles were the worst. Painful for even the racer-boy types.
Not sure I'd do this one again. Large rider field, not very courteous (for the most part), lots of scary behavior, course markings not that great, reallllly long lines for food and water. The course is pretty much flat the whole way and therefore offers up ample opportunities for those riders with a need for speed; whether or not they should be riding those speeds on bad pavement/narrow roads is another question. Saw lots of bikes go down. It was also hot. Wish I had a sleeveless AV jersey!
Here's a shot of hubby and I just after the lunch stop (which we didn't eat at because I didn't want to wait in line for 30 minutes).
And here is an interesting sign I saw, though unfortunately my picture didn't come out very well![]()
