    Real name: Amy

Where do you live? Walnut Creek, CA.

Explanation of your handle: I love my dogs!

Explanation of your avatar: Someday I’ll do that little picture thing.

Age (general or specific) 50. The big five-o, two weeks ago.

    Occupation: Systems software engineer

Favorite bike: That would have to be my old Bianchi.

What's in your stable? TBD. I’m here because I might get a bike. I used to do a lot of riding twenty years ago. I’d like to start riding again, but the process of picking a bike seems pretty daunting. So I’m glad I found this site.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 45 on a lovely road somewhere near Santa Cruz. There were no cars. It was great!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I stay safely behind the camera, but thanks for asking.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: “Yeah, you look great in that outfit.”

Most memorable moment on my bike: It had to be getting to the top of Mount Hamilton. Also the first AIDs ride was quite something, I still talk about that whenever I drive up Highway 1. (drive, in a car, I still can’t believe we did that on a bike!)

Most fun ever had on a bike? Downhills!

And Dacshund lots of us here are the big 5-uh-oh, self included. Somewhere here there's a great thread "over 40, show of hands" we may have to bump up.

I'm glad you found TE too.
I called it the "big 5-oh" too (2 months ago).
If you rode "a lot" 20 years ago you can ride even more now. Just *start* and the (new) bike will take you from there.
    I'm behind you!!
(so you don't have to worry about being slow 'cos you're ahead of me!)

    Ooo, ooo! Ooo, ooo!

Hi Dachshund! Like my avatar?!?!!! I, too, am a big fan of the short, smart, speedy, sleek, and loyal pup known as the dachshund! That is not a picture of my own dog, but one that snapdragen found me when I asked for avatar help. I just scanned some pictures of Schatzi, the 3/4 mini, 1/4 standard smooth coat black and tan dachshund, who graced us with her friendship for 19 years. She's with Orphan Annie, our English Setter, who came to us when Schatzi was 9 years old.

Argh--not enough time to fiddle with them this morning, but when I do get time, I'll post the pix. What about your doxies?

    Lise,
Absolutely! I noticed that picture right off. I have two, a red smooth named Chili, and a black and tan long-hair named Wilson. They're somewhere between mini and standard in size. They are just the sweetest companions. They're 9 and 7 years old, respectively.

As a joke for my family, I made a website for them, which has some pictures: http://www.chili-wilson.com

Thanks Lise, and everyone! This seems like a great community. Glad I found it.

Stella - I was interviewing there the year he was shot. It was all the talk at my HS as we had a LOT of students apply to Bates! (I went to HS in the Boston area). That particular Dean taught my favorite class freshman year...he was great! I'd totally forgotten about that whole incident!!

    Small world!

It is a small world. I forgot what he taught, but he was a really bright, nice, funny man! He was a good Dad to his sons.

What did you study at Bates?

Sociology...bad choice! I ended up going back to school 7 years later to get a degree in Engineering. I'm a math/science geek!

The class I took with him was what they called a Freshman Seminar...only 8 - 12 students. They were on all sorts of topics and were designed to let the freshman have at least one class that was small and more personal (unlike 120 student Psych101). My seminar was called something like Black American History...really interesting class.
