My husband did a similar thing, except he doesn't know how he did it. It didn't hurt as much as you are describing, but it did affect the mobility of his finger. When it persisted, he finally went to a hand surgeon. He had ruptured a ligament and was told that he would probably have some permanant loss of mobility without surgery. However, the surgeon suggested a splint and PT for a couple weeks and then re-evaluate. Dan followed his instructions to the letter, never needed surgery and now has full mobility.
