"Bike to Work Week" and as the leader of the group I couldn't let the weather stop me. It was just misting when I left home, but became a steady rain about 5 miles in. By the time I arrived at work, (15 miles), I was quite soggy and gritty. I really didn't mind the ride too much though....definitely more pleasant than 95 and humid. I have my clothes drying out in front of a little heater so the ride home should at least start out comfortable. The sun is shining now but it's not expected to stay that way.

This has definitely proved to me that I can't use the threat of rain as an excuse to not bike to work anymore.

    Rain! Cold, pouring, pouring rain!

And I thought I had only one clean pair of pants, so nothing to change into at the end of the ride.

Turns out I don't even have one clean pair of pants. Whoops! Not dirty, just not clean.

But tomorrow should be dry, if not sunny. Of course, the rain cleared by the time I got downtown. And I'll encourage the husband to do laundry.

I went on a ride over the tri course for next weekend. Beautiful area, but too many hills. and could someone please tell me why, in Alabama, for the past two weeks, it has been so cold? Today it looks beautiful outside, but it's in the 50s. Isn't it suspossed to be in the 80s? Shouldn't gripe though, I could be back in Oklahoma where I've heard it's already hit 100.

No ride today despite hauling my bike around in the van all day....but I did spend the afternoon swimming in Elk Lake with a family of Canada geese complete with goslings, all awkward and fluffy. I must have swam a kilometer or so alongside these cute little goslings before they went their way and I went mine. Nice change from riding!

I got in 20 miles after work tonight, but the best part was passing the 800 mile mark on this bike

    The Dark Side

I took a fireroad out behind my house for a 10 mile out and back. Climbed 1,000 feet in 3.5 miles. For you roadies this means full-body effort, pulling with arms– in saddle, out of the saddle, picking the perfect position to get traction on the back wheel, not lifting the front. Dancing with the derailers. Had to walk two short sections, but other than that a leg-busting, lung-bursting fantastic ride. Had to skirt a 4' rattlesnake on the way home! I kept track and only had to pedal twice all the way back.
