Hahahahahaha! I did not know this! Dachshunds are uniquely skilled! Go down badger holes, drag out badger! Cruise through muck, find banana slugs! They only live to serve!

Frankly, if anyone believes that a dachshund would carry anything edible instead of gobbling it down, then *I* have a nice little deal on a bridge for you!

    Nice one FBG!

I went to college at UC Santa Cruz (Go Slugs!) and the banana slug was our mascot - I saw some whoppers while I was there - you really had to watch your step sometimes walking to class.

But I have to say, the idea of any creature, even a dog, putting one in its mouth is pretty hard to swallow (ahem!)

Funny this topic should come up because when I was in DC on holidays (and my kids were doing there best to make us spend it all in the hotel room - vomiting yikes) we watched a little tv. We saw a documentary on creatures with the most slime. Apparently the Banana slug rates as number 1. When anything tries to eat it, it produces super amounts of hideous slime. They had a shot of a lizard trying to down one......not a pretty sight.

    Yuck

I thought you were kidding! Little did I dream that the Banana Slug exists! I don't imagine that a dachshund would really try to pick one up.

We've got hoardes of banana slugs here, but they are nowhere near as psychedlically colored as that one. Amazing! Ours are all khaki with some highlights. They really like cat food.

My cats are glad to know that their food is safe, here in the heartland. L.

I felt like a bannanana slug when I started bikejournal and I was at THE BOTTOM. Now after 3 commutes I've moved up to 4,200-something. I'm #62 in the TE list. Of course, everyone I "passed" hasn't ridden in more than 2 weeks, but.... victory is sweet!!!

I'm not a terribly competitive person in person, but I'm liking this bikejournal thing.

And my commute uphill home today took 1 minute less than yesterday. I attribute it to the Speedplay Frogs. I'm sure I passed some banana slugs in the woods along the road.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
