I've never seen Cher Ami. Never been to Washington DC!
They used pigeons as spotters up in planes, too, to find people lost at sea- shot down in planes or had ships sunk. There was this big "Wear Orange" campaign to make sure anyone lost at sea would be wearing an orange life jacket that the pigeons were trained to spot.
They also _tried_ to use pigeons to steer missiles- (a committee of three!) but that never got off the ground, thank God. I don't really approve of using animals as instruments of war.
