Thanks so much for the tips! Update: I'm actually pretty sick and it has turned out to either be chronic problem + UTI or just chronic problem (waiting for culture to rule in or out UTI). Either way, big nasty antibiotics for me. The chronic problem can cause weird things like nasty infections that need "big guns" and hah, I learned yesterday that it's also associated with UTI, which was news to me after 20 years. So I guess I have to rest now, like it or not.

Crankin: This bike is actually professionally fitted. I'm a big fan of that and +1 your suggestion, since my professional fit has managed to work out a lot of little nasty problems that creep up with ill-fitting bikes, like sore knees. The shop is one that actually lets you take the bike out for a test ride, provided you leave your credit card with them lol. Funny aside: When I tested this particular bike, a guy on the street saw me taking it out of the store and thought I was stealing it. And I'm in complete agreement that some gel seats can cause more problems than they fix. I had a couple like that before and I couldn't last more than 20 minutes in them - I would sink down in them and all the pressure would end up in the wrong spots. This seat (I really ought to go remind myself of the brand but I don't want to go outside) is different and I get no pain from it at all (provided I keep it aligned, which is a continuous battle thanks to the fact that I actually like to sit on it).

So yeah, I think I need to work on finding spots to do a restroom break lol. I'll just have to adjust my mindset a bit for that and be more forgiving of bodily needs. I think mindset is a real problem - I hate stopping. Oh and I used to use those edible gel things a long time ago. I've been meaning to get more. It wasn't that I didn't like them - just wasn't going as far so there wasn't as much need back then. I used to bring (and enjoy!) granola bars but it's hard to find those without inulin/chicory root these days. Used to be you could get a nice honey nut granola bar with fruit in it. Not anymore. They all have chicory root in them now, and are all low carb or whatever. Darn health food market is not helping.

I made a point of asking a few of the medical professionals I saw yesterday if Gatorade/Powerade (I'll use either) was OK for what I'm doing. I got a lot of emphatic yesses, including that the level of sugar in them was fine and that any UTI problems I may be having are not related. So that was relieving. (I'll agree that the sugar in these drinks is probably not so great if all you're doing is drinking them and sitting on the couch, but if you're using them for their intended purpose, then they're fine)

And yeah, I knew jello legs meant looooow glucose, but I kept forgetting to stop. It was like, "Oh, there's a store. Oh crap I forgot to stop. Oh, there's another store. Oh crap, I forgot again." I got in "get home now" mode and couldn't break out of it. The body reacted in an interesting manner. And I assume I eventually drew heavily from liver stores because about half way back, I felt fine, just really thirsty. Interesting experience (don't care to repeat it but it's interesting to note the pattern, including the obviously modified thought processes early on).

Eden: OMG that used to happen to me with overly soft seats. Holy crap that was awful. The seat I have now doesn't do that. Night and day difference. It has been a good 10 years since my last seat that did that but I vividly remember that pain. I used to ride standing up a lot, lol. I had a baby trailer in the back and was riding standing up. Got lots of stares. "Oh how cute! Look at that mom out with her kid. Wait, why is she riding her bike like that? Is the kid that heavy?!"
