May as well update, since I'm the one who started this thread to begin with ...
We got a Tempur-Pedic last fall and AFAIC it's awful, sigh. DH loves it, so I'm stuck with it. I will say it lives up to the no-bounce ads - I still feel it when he kicks, but it's damped immediately - no bouncing afterward. I don't know how much of that is because it's a split king rather than a single mattress, but the pieces are flush against each other (that's how the kick energy transfers to my side). We went with the second firmest - I would've chosen the most firm, but he wanted a step down - but I'm not sure the next step firmer would be all that much better for me.
I put a Therma-Rest on top of mine, under the sheet, and I can sleep on it that way without my arms going numb. Otherwise it's just what I was afraid of when I posted three and a half years ago. Heavy parts sink and lighter parts float, so I wind up with my shoulders curled in and my feet (slightly) higher than my hips. And naturally, with the Therma-Rest on top, I can't use the adjustable base, either. What a colossal waste of money. But, DH is happy, so that's something.
