I am deeply grateful for this Oliver Sacks quote, which was in an essay published in the NY Times after he found out he had terminal cancer. I'm carting a copy around with me--that's how helpful I find it:
"My predominant feeling is one of gratitude. I have loved and been loved; I have been given much and I have given something in return; I have read and traveled and thought and written. I have had an intercourse with the world, the special intercourse of writers and readers.
Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and an adventure."--Oliver Sacks.
For anyone who wants to see the whole essay, which he wrote after learning his nine-year cancer had become terminal. An inspiration right to the end and a man who made the world better. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/19/op...ancer.html?_r=.
