I'm about 50 miles north of Savannah, GA. Probably the most protected area.
Glad you are safe! For some reason I thought you lived around DC, guess I was way wrong on that one. I hope all of our members on the east coast are safe tonight!

There is a specially-trained search and rescue team based in Fairfax County, VA, called Virginia Task Force 1. They go all over the world to help in the aftermath of earthquakes, major storms and other disasters. They're getting ready now to deploy to South Carolina.

I'm glad that people are getting the help they need but sorry conditions are bad enough to warrant their involvement.

update - here is one of the 4 dogs they brought with them. Looks cute but no doubt s/he is a highly-trained, hard-working member of the team.

The photos I've seen online of the flooding in Charleston and Columbia, SC are horrifying! DH's brother's family in Columbia are fine, but there are places they can't drive or go to because roads are closed/caved in. Wilmington, NC, where my brother lives, looks terrible too, but he and his house are fine. The Outer Banks and some of the islands off shore in NC had a lot of of flooding, roads out, etc. They had already had plenty of rain before this latest storm, which is part of the problem: the ground was already saturated.
