I just read some of her writing on pinkbike. Thanks for giving me some interesting reading. I didn’t know her or know much about mountain biking. She’s a strong voice with reasoned logic and seems to use the strength of positivity well. If she is like her writing she’ll do fine….some like learning from difficulties.

As an aside, I wonder why some websites attract so many horrible people while others remain civil. I've been spending a fair amount of time lately going through forums on home renovation and decorating as I make decisions for the bathroom renovation and choose new flooring for the rest of the condo. The people there are very pleasant and supportive. The Priuschat forum is also very welcoming and helpful. It's not a gender thing, since there are plenty of men who are actively posting on these other forums. It's the same thing with some blogs, including some that focus on cycling -- some commenters might be critical of the author or other commenters, but overall things remain civil.

Yeah, nybiker. That's an interesting thing to ponder.

I'm glad to hear that Amanda had the courage to leave Pinkbike and take action! I think we all realize how far the womens movement has come, but in hindsight, I'm reminded how far we have to go.... very sad!
I'm really surprised and somewhat disappointed that there is not a stronger reaction to this, here. Whether you are a pinkbike user or not, or even knew what pink bike is before all this, doesn't mean that the issues at hand aren't something that affect we women, whether we are cycling, writing programming, in the workplace, or just speaking our minds.

Um ... I never heard of pinkbike before this, and after reading her piece, there was no way I was going to give them a single click to find out what it is.
I'm disappointed, angry, frustrated, everything I felt over the more-publicized instances of exactly this same thing in other realms.
I just didn't feel like I had anything to contribute to this conversation, since I still have no idea what pinkbike is.
