Rule of thumb is: above the neck symptoms, train (if lightly), below the neck, don't train.

So basically a runny nose won't keep me off the bike. Fever will.

When I have a cold I actually like to go for a ride. Getting my circulation going a bit faster also allows me to... hum, decongest and let go of a lot of mucus. Good time to practice snot rockets. I will feel much better after. I just make sure I wear my most absorbent, softest gloves.... (!)

I go by the rule of thumb that Grog stated. Plus if you have any kind of fever you should rest.

I had flu with similar symptoms to yours a few weeks ago and it really took the stuffing out of me. I wanted to get out and ride but I just didn't have the energy. Every other day I would get on my trainer and see how I felt. If I was not enjoying it after 15 minutes I would bag it and take a nap. By the end of the week I was feeling good enough on the trainer to spin for 30-40 minutes then I knew I was well enough to get back outside on the road.

Hope you are feeling better and are back on the bike soon!

Thanks everyone for the great advice.

Gotta mention that I've not heard of snot rockets, but that made me laugh, and I feel better already! Gotta try it....!!!

Hey there Eva... what everyone else said... if you feel miserable, don't go... though like Grog, most times a ride makes me feel better.

As for snot rockets... do a search - I think there is a whole thread here somewhere about effective snot rockets!

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

Its Anzac Day today, a day when we honour war veterans, which is a public holiday in Australia, and the bug has progressed to the back of my throat. But if the weather is ok this afternoon, I think I might go for a little pedal

I'll let you know how I feel..
