My partner in cycling, also when partner goes on long solo cycling trips

Here's he and I over the years --part of life as cyclists, cycling as part of our lifestyle. Photos hand-plucked over last decade or so.

I do comment just abit about when a life partner goes off on solo bike tours .... different couples handle this differently. One friend of his who cycles and dearie did a bike tour with him that covered over 3,000 km, I was aware that his wife really didn't want him away so long. She told me during that time, she didn't like being alone at home (they lived in a nice safe neighbourhood in North Vancouver) --a matter that had nothing to do with cycling.

She occasionally cycles around town with her hubby.

That was really interesting to read! While my lifestyle isn't exactly like yours, the commonality is that cycling is the thing that dominates our life, in the same way as yours. As for the people who are afraid for their partner to ride, well, I could never tell my DH "no." The only time I ever think about something happening is when he is commuting home, and he is late. Well, something did happen in June, and it probably was good I was out of town, although when emergencies happen, I am always fine in dealing with it. Neither of us would tell the other to stop riding because of a crash/accident. DH's crash made us think about how to mitigate risk a little bit more, although we are both very safety conscious to begin with.
The only downside to our lifestyle is that I have drifted further and further away from my other friends.

Well, it seems appropriate for a cycling forum....yes, we are lucky to have found ways to mesh our lives together..

I've never told my partner not to cycle. He exercises good judgement if he happens to have taken a drug for a medical problem that renders him drowsy, etc.
Once, he was hit by another cyclist and knocked unconscious for half an hr. I didn't even know he was in emergency services, was in this accident...until he came home. His helmet was totalled and ..later new one replaced by the errant cyclist.

He was just to me, away from home for several hrs. for his usual daily ride...so I had no idea. I was ticked off he didn't at least phone me from the hospital.

We both know that each of us are happy on bikes whether together or solo. But thankfully when we go on trips, we like visiting art galleries, exhibits, some major parks, classical music concerts, cultural events..other non-cycling stuff.
