So dearie has had his well-loved, well-used touring bike (titanium) Miyata ready to donate to local non-profit community bike co-op. But as it turns out his daughter and her boyfriend realize they had better get into some exercise. He (in his early 40's) was interested to get back into some light cycling around town for transportation. He did used to bike for transportation decades ago, so not unfamiliar.
So the 25 yr. bike was given to him. Always a great thing a well used, well-loved family bike gets passed over to another interested family member! Dearie gave some extra bike parts he had on hand too.
On the other hand, his daughter is not comfortable cycling...she's been experiencing dizzy spells in past few weeks. So it'll be yoga/pilates for her. She's in her mid-30's.

Saving for the next one...
We have 2 well loved bikes that have been passed around in the family. My oldest son has both of them, now. The oldest bike, a Voodoo hard tail, was DH's first mountain bike, then became the bike I started riding on, with slicks, sat around and was used for guests, then became an errand bike for me, with panniers and a rack. Then DS used it to commute. The other is a 2000 Serotta Atlanta, classic steel road bike. It was DS #2's second racing bike. It sat around for years, he occasionally rode it when he came home for leave. It's too small for him now, but it fits my older son perfectly. He's had it for 2 years.

It's all good if a well-loved bike can fit other family members.
I gave away my first bike that I used for 9 years when I first returned to cycling. To a sister but unfortunately she hasn't been keen to bike. She enjoys jogging. So whenever I return to Toronto to visit her (and other family members across the city), I borrow the bike. It's now 22 yrs. old and I will slap on some new handlebar grips. Rubber is sticky-deteroriating!
Despite dearie's obvious love of cycling for the last 25 yrs., he has restrained himself alot over the years, of suggesting cycling much at all to his children and grandchildren. He'd rather that the parent be comfortable to be ready to have their kid (grand-child) begin to bike rather he, the grandparent impose his wishes.
For myself, I don't really do anything to push siblings or their kids on bikes. I am pleased to say that the 3 sibling-parents for each set of their all kids, have bought bikes and the children have learned/are learning (depending on their ages. There are 7 nieces and nephews) to bike.
