After much deliberation and many test rides I treated myself to a new bike for my birthday this year! I am so very excited. It was much more than I had planned to spend but once I rode it if felt like it was made for me and I could ride forever. Once I calculated that I paid $1 a week for every week I have been alive it didn't seem like so much!
Congratulations! The more you ride it, the less the cost per use.
I used to log onto a sewing forum from time to time, and there was always at least one thread started by someone who would express a desire for a particular new machine but felt guilty about spending money on herself. I would chime in with a list of expensive things she could spend her money on and have nothing to show for at the end of the year, such as an expensive vacation, going to the bar every Friday after work for 12 months, eating out in restaurants two or three times a week... things that add up to a lot more than the cost of a very nice high-end machine that would last for years and give hours of pleasure.
