fat bike riding

This winter has been cold and icy and we haven't been riding much at all. BUT today we are going fat bike riding on some bikes our customers are actually loaning us. Can't wait to try them out. I have ridden a Surly Pugsley before but it was to big for me so riding a bike my size will be fun. Will post photos. Fingers crossed my knee holds up as it is still swollen from 3 days of skiing at Grand Targhee. Love to hear how the rest of you like or don't like the fat bike craze

I can't speak from much experience since I haven't done much on a fat bike so far, but eventually I'm going to get one so we can do snowy overnight camping trips. My s.o has a pugsley but I'd really like a mukluk. I love winter and riding my bike in the winter so it's only a matter of expenses before I get one.

My son and I have a Mukluk to share until he is big enough to need his own. WE got it for Christmas, but my PT has not cleared me to ride, yet, so it doesn't have my butt germs on it, yet. I had previously done a couple of rides on fat bikes on sand and it's WAY fun! Still haven't really done much with snow, other than a few patches last March or so, when there wasn't really enough snow to get a feel for it. My better half and I went into a bike shop yesterday so that I could spend my Christmas gift card and we saw some Surley Moonlanders on display, as well as one Pugsley. One of the Moonlanders was the personal bike of one of the shop clerks and he was extremely enthusiastic about it, urging us both to take it out for a spin - his own personal bike! Now that's an endorsement. I didn't ride far enough to get a real feel for it as the saddle was too low, but it felt like it was floating.
Now we're seriously considering getting a couple of them. I've never been madly in love with my commuter bike (although I like the internal gears) so maybe this is something I could have instead, using the touring bike for summer commuting. Living in a province with few paved roads, these bikes could greatly increase the number of riding routes available to us. I can picture us exploring gravel grid roads on them in the summer and going for city rides on the pathway system in winter.

We had a fun time on the fat bikes. We rode the same trail we rode a few springs ago on our touring bikes. It was a piece of cake on the fat bikes. Rocks, mud, ice, sand, snow and climbing all without any problems. Rolled over some huge rocks that would have totally thrown me on a Mtn bike and of course I would totally avoid on my touring bike. Neither of us cared for the handlebars on the bikes our friends loaned us. My right hand is super sore today from the way the shifters were mounted. I will have to start digging through the couch and the car to collect some spare change to buy my own The Bike Hermit rode a Salsa Muklak and I rode a nine zero seven. The nine zero seven has a much longer tt reach than the Salsa but seemed to handle just fine.
