Artisan lettuce is a combination of different types of lettuce sold in a container - typically there are 4 different small heads of lettuce of different types. A review here.

We buy "artisan" lettuce at Kroger and while we like the product, there's nothing "artisan" about it. There's nothing "artisan" about food grown in the ground. The truth is that the word has become a marketing gimmick and is being misused for a whole host of foods.

I agree, it is just the brand name. Good lettuce though, and it is a different variety than what I've seen.

Sorry; just read the review you linked to and it also takes issue with use of the word. I do disagree a bit that the lettuce doesn't necessarily spoil as quickly as mixed spring greens. We've gotten a few bad packages of it, despite having purchased well before the sell by date. Kroger is generous in their return policy at least. The only lettuce we've bought that doesn't spoil relatively quickly is at the local farmer's market. Not surprisingly....

Thanks for the descriptions - I just couldn't figure out what artisan lettuce was; I usually just buy red/green lettuce heads separately so I saw a package at Safeway yesterday that said it was "artisan" - now I know! Salmon pinwheel looks great!

B: bowl of wheat chex, 1 piece wg toast with butter, coffee
L: liverwurst and swiss cheese sandwich on wg bread, handful of rainier cherries
    snack: 1 beer
D: homemade chicken potpie, 1 glass of prosecco
    1 dark chocolate

I got busy yesterday and made chicken soup with cabbage, onions, carrots, celery, potatoes, tomatoes so I will have lunches all week; made a marinara and brown rice for another dish; which will make cooking dinners this week easier.
