If you live in Wisconsin during the winter, you really have no choice but to ride on the trainer. I also like watching movies while I do long/easy rides. If your bum is hurting on the trainer, make sure you get out of the saddle every 10 minutes or so.

For those of you who spend lots of time on the trainer...

What bike do you ride? Do you have a "trainer" bike, or are you actually comfortable putting your fave road bike on the trainer? Seems like you would chew through back tires...

I'm thinking I'll be on a trainer next winter - I whimped more this winter riding that I should have and it's kicking my rear end to get back out there on the roads....

I usually put my tri bike on the trainer so I can stay comfortable on the aerobars during the winter and on longer sessions, I can relax better in the aerobars. I change out my back tire and use a cheap-o one that I got from Performance Bike (they found one in the back and I paid like $5 for it). I definitely don't use my good tires on the trainer!

My bike goes in and out of the trainer, depending on the weather and what I need to focus on that day. I leave whatever tires happen to be on it. Right now Continental 4000s.

My trainer eats tires like crazy! I get a big flat spot down the middle. I bought an extra low end wheel and threw on an old tire (that already had a big flat spot) and I use that on the trainer.
