Look at her! Adorable. Mine loves the tub too. She keeps falling in the shower in the a.m. It's too funny. She also has death battles with the hair dryer and it's cord, while I'm using it.

Lucy's a pretty girl, Norse. We semi-adopted (still trying to find her a Forever Home) a black stray this summer that we call Itty Bitty Kitty. She's insane, too. I've never met a cat with more energy or who loves to play as much as her. She's currently obsessed with her new felt mice toys. But she rips everything to shreds, so I doubt they'll last long.

Mind you, our cats always have plenty of fresh clean water available in bowls, but they really like having fresh poured water directly from the faucet.

Satchel (also sometimes known as "Boy Boy"), stands at the bathroom doorway and meows emphatically, usually twice a day, demanding that we go in and turn the faucet on for him. He likes a fine stream of water, and really gets into the licking/slurping technique that he has developed to a fine art. He approaches the stream of water from the far side and gets it to 'bend' towards the bottom of his tongue where he then pulls it into his mouth. We adopted Satchel from the animal shelter, and he's quite a character. You may have noticed his harmless tear duct issue that we can't do much about- we just look beyond it to his abundant charms, such as his amazing opposable thumbs and loving nature. I'm sure the extra water is good for both cats' overall health.

Meanwhile, one of our other cats Sheba (sometimes known as "Boo Boo") likes to feel she's 'in on the action' by lapping daintily from a cup on the side of the sink. She is not as passionate as Satchel about the bathroom sink routine, but she enjoys being part of the scene with her little cup. The two of them will loiter together near the bathroom door a couple times a day, with Satchel in charge of meowing the command loudly for us to do their bidding and 'make water happen'.

Lisa, my cats have had similar habits over the years. Henry, my 13-year old, used to lift the toilet lid up so that he could drink from the toilet. Gross, I know but short of weighing the seat down with something, there wasn't an easy way to stop him. When we moved, he stopped doing that (and promptly developed some urinary issues). He then started drinking from a plastic 4-cup measuring cup that we kept on the counter for filling the coffee maker. We finally got to the point where we just started using it as their regular cat dish. I'm not sure why he's so partial to it. We tried swapping it out for a heavier, glass measuring cup (so that the cats were less inclined to tip it over), but they didn't like it nearly as well. I just don't understand their kitty logic sometimes.

Izzy loves the sink and usually follows me into the bathroom anytime I'm in their. Trying to brush my teeth is a challenge at times. But I'm not sure she's really mastered how to drink from the faucet. Mostly she just likes sticking her paw into the stream. She gets wet and after we dry her off, she has a habit of running away at full speed and sliding all over our hardwood floors. It cracks us up.

I've had cats for 16 years now and they are an endlessly entertaining now as they were when I first got them. Just when I think I've figured one of ours out, he or she starts something new. Yesterday, Izzy got into a box of packing materials and carried bits and pieces of them around the house (picture a 8 pound cat walking around with a piece of bubblewrap twice her size).
