MIdwest weather-are our ladies ok?

Just reading the CBC news site & they mentioned the wild weather in the mid-west of the US..

I just wanted to tell you i am thinking of you and hope you're safe n sound with your families.

Well, it certainly has been a wild ride. My only casualty was our basketball goal and a screen that blew out. Apparently a man was killed by a falling tree at Castlewood Park. The wind came up pretty fast, I was out riding and had a real problem getting home, so he may have been caught off-guard also. If I'm not mistaken, there was a mountain bike clinic there Sat. (It may have been last week). Saturday was beautiful, but between the hail and the wind yesterday, it was intense. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who had problems.

We had some big storms in the chicago area, but nothing major. Just some hail and a lot of lightning. It looks like the Springfield (capitol) area got hit again, but not as bad this time. They got nailed 3 weeks ago to the day with much worse damage.

my parents live 40 miles west of st louis...they got a pretty intense lightning storm (which just passed thru our area last night) and fairly descent winds but all seems to be ok...

WOW!!!! has the weather been intense for everbody somewhere lately!!!!

my thoughts are to all who have suffered!!! may mother nature unwad her panties and give us all some rest!!!!

Thanks for checking on us, CC. As beta said, in Chicago it was mostly an exciting thunderstorm. Of course I was safely tucked in on the couch with the new guy, trying to watch the Sox opener (that's baseball for you Commonwealth subjects... ), and he said, "I don't know. It looks bad out there. You'd better stay here. For your own safety, of course." Made me smile . The Sox even finished (and won) their game, after a three hour delay.

The weather has been so strange--chilly and grey yesterday morning for the Shamrock Shuffle, then 20 degrees warmer and sunny, then fierce rain/thunder/hail storm, then chilly and grey and rainy again this morning.

Stay safe, ladies in Iowa and Missouri and Indiana. (and Illinois!)

All is well here in Kentucky. We were hit late last night and boy what a show! The tornado sirens began blaring at about 10:30. The wind, rain and hail were something else. Fortunately the tornadoes were radar indicated only, no touchdowns in this area.

I got up early this morning and decided to get a 30 mile ride in before the temperatures dropped and the front passed through. There were lots of trees down, roads were covered in tree/barn debris. I came across a herd of horses that had gotten free and were enjoying themselves and their new found freedom. Unfortunately, at the turn around (about 15 miles out) I turned into a very strong headwind and it was a battle to get back home. My average speed at the half-point was a brisk 15.9 mph but by the time I got home it was a slow and disappointing 13.9 mph. At times the wind was blowing me across the road and it took everything I had to keep my bike upright and in somewhat of a straight line. I'm exhausted for the last 15 miles felt like I was climbing a huge hill - I think I curl up with my new cat (Phoenix) and take a nice long nap. Gotta love spring break!

We lucked out with just downed trees and a few houses and businesses missing roofs and a few walls but no one was killed this time!
