    Total Knee Replacement Scheduled for

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Monday 17th. Just a few more days to get things in order and I'll be out of commission for a few weeks. Glad to get it done but a tiny bit apprehensive all the same. I know what to expect because I had my left knee replaced about 7 years ago. Surgery was fine but the rehab was a killer. I've been taking short rides to keep up my flexibility and leg muscle strength, hoping that the rehab will go better by doing so. About 10 days ago I was instructed to go off of almost all of my RA meds so getting around has been pretty tough. I can barely walk but I can ride a bike. Strange. After this weekend my riding season will be finished for this year, I anticipate that by the time I can get back on a bike the snow will be flying. But the best news is that by next spring I should be raring to go with no more knee pain!

If you're the praying type please say a little prayer on Monday.

I am currently the coach with my partner who had hers done August 15th. Sunday she hiked 3.5 miles up the ridge with an elevation gain over over 1100 feet. It's amazing what a new knee can do!
Good luck and i will keep you in my thoughts.

Good luck, Bike Writer. You'll do fine in the rehab, because you are motivated.

Hope it all works well and fast, Bike Writer. Yes, my partner has a some problems with a knee but he's cycled several thousand km. annually. It never gives him problem then.

Good luck D. You've not had such a great year on the bike this year, have you? I hope the op, rehab and recovery all go well, that the snow season is short and that you'll be back on your bike sooner than you hope.

Good Luck with your surgery! Riding before the surgery will help with your recovery. And riding afterward is one of the best things you can do. I often get my patients started on the stationary bike in the first week post-op. Even if it's just for 5 min rocking the pedals back and forth within your available range, it helps a lot. Another good trick that I've learned over the years is to have my clients sit on a therapy ball with both feet on the ground and roll back and forth such that the knee bends and straightens rhythmically. It seems to help loosen things up.

I had a client in her 60's that had a TKR and her recovery did not go as well as typical but even still she's back on her bike and rode RSVP this year, less than 1 year since the surgery!

I'll be thinking about you on Monday.

Ladies of TE, thank you for all the well wishing and thoughts. There has been a big change of events and I will not be having knee surgery on Monday, the update is at this thread http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showt...435#post656435

Wahine, that was my thought exactly. I've been doing short regular rides to strengthen muscles and I recall that when I had my left knee done the PT put me on a stationary bike right off and had me just go back and fourth as much as I could, I distinctly remember the day when I was able to get it all the way around. Proud as punch! I like the idea of the ball too. If all goes well I could look at knee repacement next fall?
