I cleaned my home, worked full time and raised 2 children since 1980. Now with my second family, my career is very demanding and I go to school at night, and bike. So we have a woman who comes twice a month.

An individual gives you more flexibility on what they do. I found her through a friend who had hired her to clean her home while she recouperated.

She will do most anything I ask, mop, clean windows, clean the oven, reorganize. I have things I want to clean myself, so she doesn't do those things.

    I do not tip her.
I do give her a little bit extra for Christmas.

When she got injured and couldn't clean we cleaned the home ourself while she recouperated.

It is nice to come home to clean floors, counters and bathrooms. It is a luxury I've enjoyed the last 5 years. We are lucky enough to afford this luxury.

I pay 80 for each cleaning for two people who come to my townhouse every other week, and I do tip them. They are a local couple who were recommended to me and they do a fantastic job. They have been coming to my place for about 4 years.

We've had cleaners for a few years now. After a disappointing experience with a large company, we now have our cleaning done by an individual that has her own small cleaning business. And, she's wonderful. Ask friends and neighbors for a recommendation. It's important to hire someone you like and trust.

Our cleaning ladies come every other week (the owner herself and a helper). That works out perfectly for us. I do pick up the night before so that they can do their thing without our clutter in the way. I find this keeps us neater too! They do bathrooms, floors, dusting, etc. We have 4 bathrooms and lots of floor space to clean. Occasionally I ask them to do a little something extra and they're always happy to.

I do tip every time. They charge me $110 (which is really low for the size of my house) and I usually write a check for $135. More at Christmas.

I'm so thrilled to have them. I appreciate everything they do to keep our house sparkly. And with two shedding yellow labs I've seen the amount of hair they make disappear! Totally worth it to me!

I didn't tip for the first visit, but I think I might start doing that. Our cleaning lady brought 2 helpers and they went above and beyond expectations--that deserves a tip in my book. I did send her a note saying how pleased I was with her work when I sent the check. It's been two weeks and I still am in awe at how clean our house is!
