    Because the bike is so new for you and because you are recovering from the injury, I would put platform pedals on the bike and wait on the clipless.

    I do have a pair of platform pedals somewhere around the house I'll likely put on before I ever take the bike outside, there's no way going outside clipless in the near future is anywhere near safe. I was surprised it was so hard since I've never had problems before. I guess that's what major surgery and 9 weeks of vegging does for you . I'm telling myself that at least on the trainer, clipping out is like PT for my ankle strength :-)
