I had a really great 11+ miles on trails that in May scared me sh!tless. The downside...a dear friend joined us and badly broke both wrist bones hitting a patch of loose sand at the bottom of a hill. She is even more of a noob than I am and has no insurance (she works 2 part-time jobs and puts in well over 40 hours/week...another rant). It upsets me that she's going to likely go into debt over this...doing something fun and healthy. Thankfully she still wants to ride in the future.

Oh no! That's awful!!!! I'm sorry to hear that. I did notice that it was exceptionally sandy out there yesterday. And many of the places there was no clean line around the sand pits--you just had to aim straight and say a prayer. Sending healing thoughts to your friend.

Yep, the spot she hit was near the end of the easy loop, right when there's that wide open "sandbox" at the bottom of a hill. All of us struggled to get through that, but she is totally new and endo'd. She must have put her arm out to stop herself (I've never done that when I fall, but all of my falls have been slow-mo and I tend to hold onto the bike to protect it, heh).
