The BBC road race coverage was quite disappointing, apparently this is because they take it from a separate Olympics broadcaster. There was very little in the way of onscreen metrics and an awful lot of aerial shots of trees. I hope they improve it for the womens race tomorrow.

Just found this -- the cause was some faulty GPS... might be sorted before the women's race:

Cancellara has a contusion and a hematoma in the shoulder, but they do not know yet whether he will ride the TT on Wednesday. I hope he does.

Thank you pll, I was wondering how badly he got hurt. I also hope he is able to race the TT. I also hope we get decent coverage of the TT.

I'm never saying TT again! From now on I'll say "contre-la-montre."

    Watching women's rowing (skull?)...

Doesn't "Gentle Liam" shine up nice?

I'm confused. I saw almost the entire race, recorded from NBC from 5-11 am. Schlanger and Sherwen did commentary. I was pleasantly surprised by the extent of the coverage. Is that not what other people saw on NBC?

I just fast forwarded when they cut to other sports, mostly because I didn't have time to watch everything.

Fabian has not broken bones but is in lots of pain and says there's a 50/50 chance he'll race the TT.

That sounds like what I saw on the NBC West Coast from 5-11am also. I wish they'd have shown the stats regularly but the commentary was decent. (I didn't see the beginning and fast forwarded through any other commercials/introductions so I don't know WHO was commenting) I would be absolutely pleased if the womens race is similarly broadcast.

and me on the East Coast. I recorded both men and women and thought the coverage was great, especially the womens. I never got to see a womens race before like this before. They just touched in spots on swimming but those parts were very short lived. I think they reshow them in the evening anyway. And this coverage was on a regular prime channel, not the NBC Sports that I would pay extra for.

So, Cadel has dropped out of the time trial, due to "fatigue."

Cancellara will ride despite his shoulder injury.

Armistead comments on the state of professional womens cycling:

Maybe the home team winning the gold (and not in the mens race) will shine a bit of a light on the womens side of cycling. I'm not sure it'll change much, but maybe she'll have a bit of a voice.
