New (used) bike, want to make it mine

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Hi! I posted in another thread about my 2010 Trek 7.6 FX that I got off Craigslist. She is pretty and sensible, all black and gray (matte onyx?). But you know how it is, you always want to choose stuff about your bike. Since I didn't get her custom from an LBS, I want to make her mine with some other small touches.

    I'm thinking:

    -pink water bottle cage
    -pink handle bar grips
    -anything else?

I think pink accents in a dark gray and black bike will be lovely, but I don't know where to look for any. Like, as in, I don't even know who makes these things. I think I have seen you ladies with some pretty touches on your bikes, so I hope you can give a recommendation! Thanks!

Pink vinyl cut on a die cut machine might be nice. If you know people who are into scrapbooking or card making they often have a machine.

Just head down to your LBS (local bike store) and see what they have. They will have grips and cages and such to help you personalize your bike. You can probably find cute pink decals (I bought some cute hibiscus decals at Target a few years ago for my bike to class it up).

If you can't find anything locally, just hit up Amazon or other online merchant and search for what you want and you'll find oodles of cute things:
    like these grips
    or these bottle cages
    or these pink cupcake decals

Oooo think of all the possibilites!!!

but while looking for you- I found this and this beautiful wall decals that just might need to find their way into MY home. I *lurve* them!!

How about a pink seat bag to keep your spare tube, etc. in?

I did just score one of those from amazon.com! http://www.amazon.com/Inertia-Design...ds=Inertia+bag

I got the pink bottle cage as well. But I am just striking out on the bar grips. I need a pink and gray grip, not ugly solid pink like I tried first. Hideous.

Cute! Cinelli makes a pink/grey/black cork bar tape. Hard to find, but this ebay seller has it:

Such a great idea! I did look but didn't see any grips, which could be the fault of this newbie user. I have flat bars, not the drops, so can't use tape either. But thanks for your help, I love how everyone is so helpful here!

Beautiful! I have flat bars, not the drops, so sadly I can't use this. Do you think I should go get a fancy carbon road bike so I can? Let's see what hubby has to say thanks for your help!

I used to be the queen of pink. (Still kind of am!) So much so that our cycling club actually ordered jerseys in pink. There's were navy blue with neon yellow and I when my hubby bought me one I just looked at him. Seriously? I wore it a few times when we rode tandem together, but generally avoided it. It was my "nothing else is clean, darn it" jersey.

When I did an organized event with a friend, also a pink freak, we both wore pink jerseys. We recognized other riders from our club, but they didn't realize we were club members until after the ride. One of them says, "You should wear a club jersey so other members will recognize you." I said, "I would if only they were . . . (I looked down at my jersey and back up) . . . pink."

I was basically kidding, but couldn't believe it when the guy suggested the club actually order the jerseys with the same design in pink. SWEET!!!!

After that, me and my two riding buds were dubbed "Team Pink". Other people "sometimes" wore the pink jersey on the club rides, but my friends and I ALWAYS did, and often rode together in a pace line.

My bike was similar colors as yours. Black, silver and white. I had a pink seat, pink handlebars and pink bottle cages. I really wanted a pink saddle bag, but for some reason never got one. I think I decided the black bag on the pink saddle was a nice contrast and I didn't want to over do it. Also didn't want to "clash" my pinks and I think the bag was a darker pink than my lighter other accessories. I also used pink bottles. The insulated Polar brand.

And I ALWAY dawned pink. Pink jersey, pink gloves and pink socks. I got many comments from other riders. Even my iPod shuffle is pink. For a while I had pink headphones! Just the other day when I drove to a ride start with some friends, one of them, a guy, started cracking up at my pink sports bag and started listing all the pink stuff I had.

However, as I progressed in my riding, I slowly became more concerned with things other than the color of my bike accessories. In an effort to get my bike as light as possible, so I could climb better, I switched out my pink bottle cages for lighter carbon fiber black ones. (I'm a total weight weenie!) And then after being tired of my super sore "girl parts", I finally decided comfort preceded color there as well. But first I searched and searched for a saddle that would work for me that was either all pink, or black with pink accents. I just could not be done and I resigned to having a black saddle.

The pink polar bottles, while I still own a couple, were set aside for the newer, nicer to drink from Camelback bottles, in white with black.

So now the only thing pink on my bike is my handlebar tape . . . and ME! I still mostly wear pink. However, my club has since completely changed the design and color of their jerseys. They are now black, white and red. And they don't have a pink version!

I do love the new kit, though. Very comfy and a very nice design. And soon I'll be getting another nice kit of the same color combination from a friend who made kits to advertise his business. Since the colors clash with the pink on my bike, I've been considering the possibility of actually . . . I can't believe I'm saying this . . . changing my pink handlebars to black. Shocker, I know!

By the way, I got my pink saddle and bottle cages online. Might have been right here on Team Estrogen. I also ordered most of my pink jerseys online as it's rare to walk into a bike shop and find a pink jersey and, if I did, it often didn't fit me well. I'm tall! And most places carry pink handlebar tape. I do caution you, though, if you're getting a light to medium pink, it can get dirty easily depending on the brand. My original tape got dirty very quickly. I have since switched to another brand that is much better. Fizik Microtex is what I believe I have on my bike right now. http://www.amazon.com/Fizik-Bar-Tape.../dp/B003Q3V0AW

Lizard Skins is another one that I think stays cleaner, but at the time they only had a super bright hot pink option for their pink. I see now they have a lighter pink. http://www.amazon.com/Lizard-Skins-P...ard+skins+pink

Below are a few pics for your viewing pleasure. The first two are of my old bike with all the pink accessories. The third is me with my pink club jersey, my updated bike (the white saddle was temporary . . . it's black now). And the last one is my husband (in blue club jersey) with me and my friend of Team Pink fame, dawning our pink club jerseys at the start of the Solvang Century.

Good luck on your hunt for pinkness!!!

Sorry, didn't catch that you were flat bar. Not sure if they'd work for you (I know very little about flat bar grips), but Specialized has a grey/pink grip in the Women's BG Contour Locking grip line. There's also Origin8 Ergo Sport Grips handlebar grips that are grey/pink, too. You should be able to find these if you Google for them.

Yes, I'm all for supporting the "home team" TE, whenever possible!

Hey, great pics! I love your pinkness! You know, you can get the carbon bottle cages in pink now... I also know what you mean about not mixing up your pinks. I did this only slightly, and when my accessories arrive and I get back from vacation, I will put up my own photos of the new and improved Lillibeth (she's my Trek)!

Thanks! I did see the Specialized, but they are the wrong pink. The best I can find are the origin8 you mentioned. I am going to order them if, when my other accessories arrive, I still need a touch of pink at the bars. Will post pics when I get everything and put it all on the bike!
