Running armed?

Hi all

There was a runner robbed and killed in rural KY on Thursday: http://www.kentucky.com/2012/06/15/2...opular#wgt=pop

And now there's a lot of talk amongst the local running community about getting concealed carry permits... I can't imagine running with a gun. I think I'd feel less safe with one, somehow. But then, I run mostly in the city, in poor neighborhoods, where I feel perfectly safe. If I were out in rural areas or wealthy neighborhoods where there aren't people out watching all the times, it might be different.

Do any of y'all run armed? Pepper spray?

(back to the original incident, how dumb do you have to be to try to rob a runner? The only thing I have on me is my housekey, and maybe water and a larabar.)

I carry pepper spray. Would think carrying a gun while running would be pretty awkward...they're heavy! I agree with your comment on the general stupidity of trying to rob a runner--although if the runner has an Ipod or something then I could see someone going after that. Too bad that incident had to happen and make people feel unsafe going out for some fresh air and exercise. And to think this scumbag went after a pregnant woman, makes the crime even more despicable than it already would be. What is WRONG with people?
