    YNAB software - educate me

I know that YNAB has a free trial period, and I may give it another shot though the software is a little pricey for me right now.

So, if you are a YNAB user, what is the advantage of using it over a personal spreadsheet where you keep track of your budget? I've done that for years but I need a fresh approach and am considering different options. This might be it, or not, but let me know why you chose to pay for this program rather than to have your own personal spreadsheet.

The short answer, for me, is that it's simple and extremely flexible. Sure, I could do the same thing in Excel, but then I have to stay on top of formulas, and probably construct multiple sheets in order to get the same workflow that YNAB offers. That just feels too much like work to me. If it's not easy, I won't do it, and YNAB is easy and convenient for me.

I also really like the mobile app. It makes traveling so much easier when I can enter things on the go, and it's simplified my reimbursement forms too.

The amount of money that we've saved in ~9 months is absolutely worth our initial investment.

Feel free to ask questions- I love talking about YNAB!

YNAB has allowed me to finally get my financial life under control. I've tried all sorts of methods. YNAB is more than just a fancy spreadsheet. The philosophy and methods are very effective. In my case, it paid for itself right away, and i have more cash and less debt than I've ever had. It's not magic; it simply gives me the tools to live responsibly and within my means while reaching my financial goals. It makes consistency and discipline--required for any change--fun and easy to implement. I would encourage you spend some time with the tutorials and on the YNAB forum. That's where you will get lots of information and guidance.

Those are compelling reasons for me to look further into it, thanks for your feedback!
