So they finally finished it? I remember there was a lot of controversy about it as I was leaving Calgary in early 2010. Personally, I think they could have used a bridge down near Glenmore Trail or Heritage Drive a lot more.

Bill topped out to $26 million.

Now there is another new bridge being built east of new East Village area.

Most likely Heritage Drive could use a new bridge. I dislike going under a very low underpass to get to the area. But I don't know the whole area down there that well yet.
One could do a whole book, blog on exclusively bike-ped bridges in terms of design. I agree it doesn't have to be at a huge cost either.

I love the work of Santiago Calatrava! (the blog got the name wrong) True, it is expensive, but some of such works become tourist destinations. For example, he built a wing of the Milwaukee Art Museum which is iconic and definitely worth a visit to Milwaukee. The museum collection by itself isn't. I was sad the "Spire" building that had been in the plans for Chicago was not built.

Duh, thanks for the name correction. I made the change.

Here's another bridge he did in Madrid that my partner saw during his cycling trip in 2011:
