    Angry Comcast!!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

So, they randomly decided to bump my pricing to $70 a month for plain old internet service. Tried to tell me I had a promotional rate for the last few months. I'm sorry, but SERIOUSLY?? I told the online chat-helper that for $70 I wanted cable, internet, and a couple free pizza deliveries a month. He told me to call their service line (which, of course, is only available during my work hours when I'm being paid to do something much more productive than fight with Comcast) and they might have more promotions available. The best part is, the bill with that rate thanks me for being a loyal customer. Some thanks.

I am livid. And honestly, I should've known better than to trust them.

I guess this is mostly just a public service announcement to pay attention to their billing! But if anyone has any other internet suggestions, I'm open to ideas. I'm doing some research now but I don't trust any of these companies. I honestly should just ditch the internet service altogether but I enjoy watching netflix a couple of times a week. Ugh.

None of the major ISP's are great but I've found Comcast to suck the worst. CenturyLink seems to be the least bad.

Looks like those might be my only two options. No one else seems to want to provide service to my neighborhood. Comcast has pulled this on me before, though last time it was just a $10 increase. Just absurd. I can't believe they can be so sneaky. Even my cell phone company isn't this awful to deal with.

I like my 4G from Clear. They do have service in Denver area just check their coverage map on their web site to make sure your neighborhood is covered.

They don't band limit you once you hit some magic number. Rate is pretty good in Portland Or.

I refused to use Comcast just for the reason you mentioned. Not even a telephone service. We use VoIP with Clear 4G. On rare occasion our VoIP gets bit garbly but I think its because we have two VoIP service on the same network in my house. My partner has her VoIP and I have mine. Ooma based VoIP. We've been pretty happy. One time fee and free ever since.

smilingcat, HUGE thanks for that tip! That's definitely something to look into. I had considered a broadband card with AT&T but I don't want to deal with the current data limits.

When we lived in Mooresville, NC we had Windstream for internet, which was great. Then we moved across the state and had Century Link for the first year we lived here. Talk about the absolutely worst reliability and SLOW DSL service on the planet. Heck dial up is faster than what their DSL is. Had to reset the modem on a daily basis and it still went out several times a day for no reason. Had several service call to no avail. When we bought a house we switched to Time Warner. That was NOT easy as both hubby and I have major issues with Time Warner, but at least their internet is reliable for the most part.

Jessmarimba, can you get Century Link/Qwest where you are? I live in the backwater of western Colorado (Grand Jct) and I have Century Link for DSL. It's 3mbps and has been fine for watching videos (and bicycle racing) online. I have had good service here too. I pay $19.99/mo for the DSL. I also have basic landline phone service ($35/mo). So my monthly bill from CL is $55. (My first year of DSL with Qwest was $14.99/mo, but they haven't offered that rate since.)

When the $19.99/mo runs out I call them up and ask to be put on the next promo (usually $19.99/mo). I might have to call a couple of times to get the right type of person to talk to that will give me that rate. Yes, they are mostly open during the time I'm at work but I try to plan for a time that I can devote to calling and getting it squared away. It saves me a lot of money.

Comcast will renegotiate my rate down too, but I don't want to have to keep calling and fixing prices. With anyone. Especially when they don't tell you how long your current price rate is good for. It's terrible business and I don't want to encourage it.

Our CommieCast DVR couldn't find a bike race in its recordings search function to save its life.

CSRs from Comcast always tell me when my current promotion is due to expire. I mark it on my calendar.
