smilingcat, HUGE thanks for that tip! That's definitely something to look into. I had considered a broadband card with AT&T but I don't want to deal with the current data limits.

When we lived in Mooresville, NC we had Windstream for internet, which was great. Then we moved across the state and had Century Link for the first year we lived here. Talk about the absolutely worst reliability and SLOW DSL service on the planet. Heck dial up is faster than what their DSL is. Had to reset the modem on a daily basis and it still went out several times a day for no reason. Had several service call to no avail. When we bought a house we switched to Time Warner. That was NOT easy as both hubby and I have major issues with Time Warner, but at least their internet is reliable for the most part.

Jessmarimba, can you get Century Link/Qwest where you are? I live in the backwater of western Colorado (Grand Jct) and I have Century Link for DSL. It's 3mbps and has been fine for watching videos (and bicycle racing) online. I have had good service here too. I pay $19.99/mo for the DSL. I also have basic landline phone service ($35/mo). So my monthly bill from CL is $55. (My first year of DSL with Qwest was $14.99/mo, but they haven't offered that rate since.)

When the $19.99/mo runs out I call them up and ask to be put on the next promo (usually $19.99/mo). I might have to call a couple of times to get the right type of person to talk to that will give me that rate. Yes, they are mostly open during the time I'm at work but I try to plan for a time that I can devote to calling and getting it squared away. It saves me a lot of money.

Comcast will renegotiate my rate down too, but I don't want to have to keep calling and fixing prices. With anyone. Especially when they don't tell you how long your current price rate is good for. It's terrible business and I don't want to encourage it.

Our CommieCast DVR couldn't find a bike race in its recordings search function to save its life.

CSRs from Comcast always tell me when my current promotion is due to expire. I mark it on my calendar.
