Yes, that last hill was TOUGH! I had a blast going really fast on the downhills but I was down to 4mph the last time I looked at my computer on the really steep hill

This was the first time I've ridden the 1/3 century route. I did the 7 mile Elephant Rock "family" ride about 12 years ago when I was at my lowest ever fitness level. Back then even the family ride was routed over some pretty intense hills. I thought that I was going to die on that ride! Yesterday's ride was my redemption
Hahaha, yeah, we got passed a few times by some people...including a little girl about 8 years old, pedaling furiously.....she passed my boyfriend, who then passed her, and she *growled* and passed him again!

We must have been just a few miles apart each stop. Are you doing any of the other rides in the area? We are planning on training for the 1/2 century in Boulder in September, which I did last year on my old bike (hard!!!) I was thinking about doing Venus, but my best friend isn't able to come back from Philly for the ride, so I wasn't sure about doing it alone.

I doubt that we'll do any other long-ish road rides this year. Our passion is mtn biking. We committed to doing the Elephant Rock with some friends last winter when June 3rd sounded like it was the distant future. DH and I had a lot of trouble motivating ourselves to get on the road bikes to train for this. In the end, we pulled this ride off with many 1 1/2 hour mtn bike rides and one 32 mile road ride under our belts. I may consider the Boulder and Venus rides if we end up doing many longer mtn bike rides this summer.

I've heard that the Venus de Miles ride is very friendly. I'll bet that you could hook up with someone at the start of the ride so that you wouldn't have to do the whole thing alone.
