Sounds like you had a perfect ride. Knowing how to pace yourself is one of the advantages of our age. I am impressed you could ride in shorts at 42 degrees. I can't stand to be cold at all, even for a few miles.
And yes, the definition of "rolling" differs so much that I assume it means big hills, but maybe not 18%.
