    We have a new baby!

    As if my life wasn't full of excitement with getting ready for my first cycling ride my horse birthed a Filly on Wednesday morning!



    Before anyone gets mad, yes I know mom is skinny. She was a rescue I started taking care of in late feb early march. Not even the vets suspected that she was preg. We had her teeth floated and the vet said she was easily in her mid 20's! Hopefully now that we know her body was trying to support the baby we can get her up to ideal weight.

    Any suggestions on names, something that means things like surprise, suddenly, or similar (since she looks just like mom!)

    Aw, she's beautiful! The coloring on her butt reminds me of an exploded snowball!

    I'm terrible at animal names (ours are named after people, for the most part) so I'm not even going to embarrass myself with suggestions.

    We're in Central NY, Syracuse/Oswego.

    The mom is an Appaloosa, which were bread by the Nez Perce people of the western US. So she IS one of those horses you'd see a pretty blanket on. :-p

    They're considered "Snowflake" in pattern too. <3 Going up there again today. My life belongs to the horses now I guess.

    Awwwwwwwwww! Both look as if they have a dusting of powdered sugar on their flanks. Maybe a name that's pastry related will help get Mom back to a healthy weight. It's the wrong tribe and region but I've had Native American fry bread with powdered sugar on it. Yummy!

    SO beautiful!! I like her speckles on her bum- so I say call her Speckles.
    I'm terrible with names (which is why I don't have children), and I suppose any name you decide upon will suit her just fine. Mom is a beauty, too!!
