    Weekday Rides

Following Wahine's advice, I am starting to focus my rides on TIS rather than miles, so I spent 90 minutes on my bike yesterday and lovely 85 temps! Weeeeeeeeee

In that time I did happen to get in ~18 miles, so that wasn't shabby. Neck was fine afterwards, even better!

DH and I rode 24 miles in Sudbury and Concord. Despite the fact I have lived in this area for almost 22 years, there are some streets I still confuse. It was about 78 and I was hot!
We went out for lunch near the end of the ride, at a place that is a little nicer than where we would go while riding. It's restaurant week, so we like to take advantage. Got a few looks from the other diners when we walked in in our bike clothes.
Good news is all of a sudden, I am comfortable on my Guru. Too bad I had to go to work after lunch.Y

Took a legit hookie day yesterday as dh had off also to enjoy a great ride in warm sunshine after the fog lifted. Too bad the nice weather is short lived as tomorrow the weather will turn colder and nasty. I hope nice weekdays and turning nasty for the weekend will not be a spring trend!!

I rode to the salon to get my hair cut and then went across the street to meet Reesha for coffee, as she is here visiting her parents.
It was a picture perfect day, about 71 and sunny. A little ( a lot) breezy on the way there, not so bad on the way home. 16.75 miles.

It's the end of my spring break. Weds we were near Payson Arizona. Wintry weather had swept through Monday, leaving snow, but temps were not too cool in the afternoon. The roads were not too bad for about 8 miles from Kohl's Ranch where we were staying, back toward Payson but then narrowed to two lanes with absolutely no shoulder, so we turned around. We took two little side trips- one to Tonto Village and had a cool drink in a funky cowboy decorated cafe. Then we rode up another side road to the Tonto Fish Hatchery- four miles up with a stiff climb of 600 feet in a little over a mile. Total 27 miles.

Thursday we stopped in the Verde Valley and rode to Tuzigoot National Park- about 37 miles round trip. The weather and scenery were pretty nice- but the roads were not too great. Outside of the town of Cottonwood, there was enough of a shoulder but some really awful pavement (the main road was freshly paved!), and in Cottonwood there were no shoulders or bike lanes.

Today I was going to work in my classroom, but called to schedule a home visit as well. Turns out, the family had just moved - still in the district but much further out than I thought. So I had an adventure in finding the place, including riding about 1/2 mile on a dirt road, and it was 48 miles altogether. Beautiful weather for trying my new arm coolers- but I did not have time to get to the classroom.... Guess I'll be there tomorrow.

I did 22 miles on Monday and 14 on Tuesday. The rest of the week, I couldn't ride because of the crazy high pollen counts, and a shoulder injury that I'm pretty sure came from an on-the-bike sneezing fit.
At least I don't leave slime trails.

My office was closed due to an electrical fire Thursday and Friday.
Since the fire took out the servers, the ability to telework was limited, so we were basically out of work for 2 days.

When it was sunny and in the 70s.
    Hmmmmm.
What to do? What to do??

I know! A nice long, 42 mile bike ride out into the rolling hills north of me.

Only problem: forgot sunny and 70s means short sleeves and shorts, and I forgot the sun block. It is still March after all. Last year, about this time, we were skiing powder in Colorado!

Short ride today between class and next study block. I did 20 miles and I averaged 17 MPH. The road bike is ruining me, don't know if I'll want to get back on my commuter bike now Honestly, I love my commuter bike. In fact it may be my favorite, shhhhhhhhh.

Woo Woo temps in the mid 50s today!!!! Bundled up and went for ride. So excited to be out in the SUNSHINE that I forgot to reset my computer. Don't know how far or how fast I went (kinda nice). Rode fairly hard for about an hour then stopped at DH's high school baseball practice. Sat and watched them for too long, but boy did that sun coming through all my warm gear feel good. And the boys were having so much fun out in the nice weather, it was nice to watch them.

Sunday we climb 69 flights of stairs in Seattle at the Columbia Tower. It is a Lymphoma fundraiser. We will ride together tomorrow, but probably only about 20 miles.

    Sunshine: good! No rain: good!

I-want-to-ride-today...temps are a bit cooler and less sun and a break in the rain until mid-late afternoon. However....in the last 4 days in a row I've either ridden or done a hard workout of one kind or another. My legs are basically ok this morning but I know they need a break and tomorrow will be warmer and sunnier - but busier so it will be harder to fit in. I suspect that I can mange it though My legs will appreciate a day's break...

    TIS.
Was able to get two weekday rides in this week. 90 minutes each. Two big hills. Hope to keep it up. Spring has sprung.

    Let the season begin!

We've had record high temps for March. (Where was I stuck for the best days? At work, of course.)

Undaunted, this morning I assembled my gear, pumped up the tires of the Aurora and finally set out on my first ride of the season. I love this bike; there is nothing like steel for a smooth ride! (When I started bicycling again a few years ago, I thought I'd want a carbon bike in the future. Instead, a custom steel bike is now on my bucket list.)

It was a bit chillier than I would have liked, but I had a modest goal of 5-7 miles for my outing. Several small hills, a couple of sprints here and there...some scenic pedaling... Eight miles later, it felt like I hadn't stopped riding over the winter.

Tomorrow-when my middle-aged joints are creaking in protest-it may be a different story.

    Days off are good.
Wednesday I didn't feel like riding (shoulder issue plus cold/pollen), Thursday I had the same problem, Friday I had errands to run, today was shot. I'm riding tomorrow afternoon to check out the changes from the fitting, provided it doesn't rain...and maybe I'll sneak one in Monday morning. Okay, that may be a bit far-fetched, knowing me, but it can't hurt to try...

I am recovering from a bad whiplash injury, and she recommended I focus more on time in the saddle rather than the miles - I tend to focus on mileage regardless of weather conditions. Obviously windy miles produce more strain for the neck than calm...her advise was in another thread elsewhere on this forum.
