Guess the new saddle worked!

It did! As a result we ended up ordering this saddle that I found on Amazon for <$30, including shipping. It's similar in shape and size to the saddle that came on his bike, but with a cut-out. On Ritchey's site they even show it as a saddle designed specifically for cyclocross. It's only 131mm wide and not as long as the Jett. Perfect for his skinny little butt.

Not yet. Tracking says it's out for delivery, but USPS has already been here and I haven't seen it (which doesn't surprise me. Sometimes it bounces around the 2 nearby post offices until they pull their heads out of their butts). I'm off to the PO in just a bit to get yours back to you.

It really is. We're already talking about what his next bike might be, since he'll likely only get ~2 years out of this little Redline. Perhaps he will inherit my Redline Conquest with an extra set of wheels/tires specifically for the road (and better brake pads for better stopping), then I would upgrade. I'd love my next CX bike to have disc brakes. Hopefully in a couple of years that will be easier to find for not much over $1500.
