Call me a neanderthal too. (No, call me Cro-Magnon, better looking but more aggressive and not as smart.) I much prefer to access not only TE, but FB, Google, newspapers, etc., etc., via web browser. One less set of scripts and cookies for me to find, keep track of and delete, one less thing to clutter up my menu screen, one less new interface for me to learn.
(But I would like embedded videos - even though I'd probably never use them, it would make seeing other people's video links that much easier...)

You can do forum surfing easier on a smart phone with an app designed for forums like tapatalk.Much nicer than using a phone browsers. Most of my other forums come up in tapatalk search, but not this one.

luddite here who has a very basic cell phone which she uses for emergencies only while riding and for occasional calls from children and husband. I do not believe in 24 hour accesability. The phone is there for communication as necessary not for web browsinghy not use your computer?

Just sayin', I like my phone and it's nobody's business if I have it on 24/7 or not (which I don't, in case you think I do) It's like the mac vs pc thing. Every
time smart phones are mentioned the "I don't have one" contingent comes out, and you know what? It's getting really old and boring.

This forum does have RSS feeds - Free RSS is actually a pretty nice way to view it on a smart phone (or well, at least my Ipod). The viewer is pretty good - doesn't have tiny, tiny text and if you want to post something one tap will take to you the actual web site.

Sorry, that wasn't my intent. I just figured TE would want a straw poll before they signed onto something that was going to cost them page views. Maybe they should put up a real poll. But then again, since the retail supports the forum a lot more than advertising does, maybe losing page views isn't that important to TE, either. I dunno.
I access TE on my phone all the time. Via the browser, which as I said is my preference. Waiting room magazines are boring and usually months old. And if I don't have to drag a six pound computer around every time I'm away from home overnight, I'd just as soon use my phone then, too.
And it is on 24/7 and at my bedside at night. Besides being my alarm clock - I'm not the only one who might possibly have an emergency. A phone "only for emergencies" isn't a whole lot of use if no one you need to call has THEIR phone on.

Speaking for myself, I don't have a laptop, so if we leave home for a few days I have no way to check e-mail, other than my phone. It's also nice if I'm out running errands and need to look something up online, like price comparisons or finding an address or phone # for a business. I like being able to play Pandora radio in hotels with cell phone docks, too.

I use my smartphone or kindle fire for web browsing. I almost never turn on a computer at home. Along with everyone else, doctor's waiting rooms, etc. they come in handy!
I also use my phone 24/7 for work. I am in an on demand industry and have to be accessible via email, phone, text at anytime. I couldn't imagine working without one. Really increases productivity!
Most unexpected use:
One day before our put-in on the Grand Canyon. Our trailer light broke in Kaibab, no parts to be found. Shuttle company specifically states they will not shuttle trailers that aren't 100% working. We would have been screwed on our trip that we waited 15 years to take. I took a photo of the bad parts, emailed to my son in Phoenix, he was able to match up the part at an auto parts store and bring it up with him that evening. You can't do that with a not-smart phone.

My phone is capable of doing just what you mentioned, so my phone must be a smart phone![]()
I'm not much of a photobug or reading things on my tiny phone screen. But I do use it as an MP3 player with about 6 hours of music time. I have one of those pre-paid plan. CHEAAAPPPP!!!![]()
I use it to play Pandora when I'm over at the gym by myself. Of course, then I can't blame anyone but me for the playlist.
Wow, have we gotten off topic. Sorry, Irulan.
