It does mean you didn't read a certain post of mine elsewhere.

I have made these for our dog a few times and he loves them. For him, I just roll the dough out and then cut it into square-ish shapes with a pizza cutter, he doesn't really need fancy cookie shapes. I used small squares as rewards when we were training him.
But for gifts I have used cookie cutters to make them more fun.
I have also made a 'frosting' for these when making gifts. I can't remember how I made it or if I found a recipe on the internet, but I'm guessing it was a powdered sugar/milk type thing. Probably not healthy for a dog to have often, but as a little treat it seemed to work ok.

Homemade Dog Treat Recipe
Peanut Butter Puppy Poppers
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 cup peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
1 cup milk
Preheat oven to 375'F. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk, then add to dry ingredients and mix well. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Bake for 20 minutes on a greased baking sheet until lightly brown. Cool on a rack, then store in an airtight container. --- This is the original recipe, but I have found the cookies burn easily.
Do you have a dehydrator? My guys favorite home made treat is dehydrated sweet potato. Cut in thin strips, dehydrate. I use my oven - so 225 degrees for 3 hr. Temp and time will vary.
A close second is dehydrated chicken.
Homemade dehydrated things should be refrigerated when possible, and only last a couple of weeks, not forever like the ones with preservatives, though.

Thanks, sookie! I was hoping for a PB one!
TS - no, no dehydrator. But thanks for the idea.

My dogs love these, from Jerry Traunfeld's The Herbal Kitchen:
Makes 2-4 dozen.
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cups dry nutritional yeast
1 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1 cup parsley sprigs, gently packed
1/2 cup peanut butter, preferably unsalted
1 egg
1 cup water
Preheat oven to 275 degrees F.
Whirl the oats, flour, yeast, garlic powder and parsley in a food processor until finely ground. Add the peanut butter and process until combined. Add the egg and water and process until dough forms a firm ball that spins around the blade.
Turn the dough out and knead briefly. Pinch off a piece of dough (large or small, depending on the size of your dog) and roll into a cylinder. Pinch in the middle to form a bone shape, pressing a fingertip into both ends to create sockets. Arrange biscuits on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake the biscuits for about 2 hours, or till lightly browned and quite dry. Cool and store in an airtight container out of paw's reach.
Thanks, though a combo of PB, mint and garlic is, um, perfect for dogs! That's it. Just what they'd like!![]()
